Starts and Stops
My 57 Cub starts and will run about 1-2 sec and stops. Yesterday I changed the plugs because of a miss (put Champion D18Y in). The old plugs were about 10-12 yrs old and shot. Started up and she purred like a kitten so I decided to go for a ride. The ride only lasted about 100 yds and she quit. She starts and runs about 1-2 sec and quits. I removed the float chamber plug and gas runs from the tank through the carb just fine so it's not a fuel supply issue. Seems I had similar problem about 10 years ago and it was the condenser. Any suggestions??

Re: Starts and Stops
I had a similar problem with my Cub last fall. After days and days of trouble shooting AND Great guidence from the greatest Cub info forum on the planet, I found that the wire from the condenser was loose on the stud that it mounts on in the distributor! I reattached it and had it purring like a BMW ! Hope this sheds some light on your problem

Re: Starts and Stops
It is purring again! Went for ride after removing the Main Jet, blowing it out and reinstalling. Started right up. Thanks, Tom and Don for the advice, as I was about to dig into the distributor. Last year, based on advice from the Forum, I replaced the float valve with a Kohler engine float valve and stopped the carb from leaking gas which had been going on since the early 90's.
