Weed Wiper

Postby leerenovations » Wed Mar 12, 2014 12:28 am

Just wondering if anyone out there has fabbed up a weed wiper for a cub. Most of the ones I see are for an ATV with wheels to let them follow the terrain. So I figure I might fab one up for my cub. Just wondering if anyone has made one, the pros and cons, and ideas for my build.

The trail behind units I've seen are set up to trail off to one side. I take it you don't have one of those. I haven't done it but I think you would want to side mount like a Cub 22 mower. If you have a 22 mower I guess you wouldn't need a weed whip. Anywho... you could fab a bracket similar to a 22 mower and mount the mower to the end of that. You would be able to lift and lower it as needed via the touch control. ...or hook it up to a cultivator tool bar. In lieu of that build a trail behind setup.

Edit - I guess I misunderstood!

You could fab some brackets that mount to the drawbar like a buzz saw lower mount and then hang your spreader from that. The tank could set on the drawbar and those brackets or the tank could be mounted on the side like a transplanter.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Had to look up weed wiper, thinking weed whip or something similar to weed eater.

Front mounted grader blade? Remove blade and fabricate the boom attachment. Tank on rear mounted platform.

I just mow and spot spray. If I need to knock down a large patch, boom added to 15 gallon, 12 volt pump sprayer.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Weed wipers have their own gravity res., they do not use external tanks/pumps/etc----that is what the big pipe is for that the ropes plug into!----Unless you are talking about something else!
PS--- I have a long one and a shorter one for free if you want them. thanks; sonny

The reason I want one to to get rid of ryegrass. It stick up taller than the other grass. I have bermuda in the pasture and I want to get rid of the ryegrass. Thats why i want to use a weed wiper, to wipe glyophosphates onto the ryegrass when it stick above the bermuda. I dont want to hurt the bermuda, just the rygrass and other weeds that grow taller than th bermuda.

Yeah, I saw those rope wickers. The I saw a study from the Kentucky univeristy that showed rope wickers werent the best design. The last one I saw was a 6 inch PVC pipe covered in canvas that would wick the herbicide down the entire length. It had faucet on one end to allow a certain amount of air into the pipe, the more open the faucet, the more air would go in and the more herbicide would be released. I was just wondering if anyone had built a way of hanging this on the tractor. I thought about a sliding hanger on the back, but then I thoght I would drive and bend down a bunch of the weeds. ANd I heard if you hang them in the front, then you coat your tires with herbicide and then apply it wherever you drive. And I think if I hang it off the side, the PVC would flex to much to only hit what I want. SO, I am perplexed and thught someone had already solved this problem.

You could probably build a frame like this than hang something off it to hit the tall rye.

Dont matter if it's hanging off to the side or front mount,---next pass your gonna run over treated weeds anyway!--- the guy that I used to work for made a 40 foot wide one and pulled it with a four-wheeler!--- spaces out the tracks!---also he put bike wheels to hold the height that he needed----his folded up into 3 sections when going from farm to farm! thanks; sonny

Thats a good idea, never thought of making a trailing implement. Seems like that would be a lot easier than what i was thinking and just pull a pin and it s off the tractor. This is why I ask the experts here.

We mounted one on the cub once. My uncle made it attach to the snow plow frame somehow. I was very young when it was done just remember seeing it. I guess that would be a way to raise and lower it. Blade was taken off also, or it would have gotten in the way. The wiper was a 8; long piece of PVC with ropes hanging from it every 6". Still have the pipe, it is in the rafters of the shed.
