Battery Box

Postby Chet » Sun Mar 02, 2014 10:54 pm

I cannot find a battery box for sale. Has anyone reverse engineered a battery box and would provide me with the information in order for me to manufacture several for my cubs. Also, the rear light bracket.

If you want to make your own, here's a link to Stanton's fabrication of a battery box: viewtopic.php?f=64&t=68630&p=557071&hilit=battery+box#p557071

I used a Wal Mart purchased marine battery box for a boat. I just drilled holes to bolt it down to the factory bolt holes. I then spray painted it Farmall Red and it looks pretty snazzy. Its just not proper for a show tractor.
Tractors are like watermelons: the RED is good and you throw away the GREEN.

I think you may need to ground the battery somewhere other than the original position on the side of the battery box. :D

Actually mine was grounded to a bolt on the shifter cover and works just fine. Like I said, this wont be correct, just functional. I dont spend money on trailer queens. If I cant work with a peice of equipment, then its no use to me. My father grew up during the depression and instilled in me the ideal that you dont spend money unless you can use that purchases to provide for your family.

I will second Rob's vote on the OEM battery box. I bought mine right after I restored my Cub. I purchased a real cheap battery box off eBay. When we were on our way on the tractor's maiden voyage in June 2007 to Bloomsburg Pa for this tractor's first RPRU, the darn light bracket broke off the back of the box. The spot welds tore through the paper thin metal. As soon as we got to the show I looked up OEM and picked up his complete box. He had just started selling them. They were powder coated red. I bolted it on at the show and haven't had trouble since. It fits perfect and is a perfect reproduction looking exactly some of the ones that I have that are original. At that time he was selling the complete 3 piece box with inside rubber bumpers, cable grommets, J-hook bolt and rear light bracket and clamp for $75. They are more now ($106), but worth it in my opinion.
