Rear hydraulic lift arm

Postby Papa's Cub » Sat Feb 01, 2014 2:39 pm

I'm looking for information or a site that will show me the proper way to attach the rod to the rear rockshaft lift arm. It seems to rub on either the fender or gas tank no matter which I try to attach it. By the way, its not absolutely straight, it has a slight bend. Any help will be appreciated, thanks, Papa.

That is going to be the biggest problem. If you can get the bend out you may have it solved. Also make sure the fender isn't bent in a little.

Uh Oh, now I see why mine doesn't fit either way. It's bowed up and then someone reinforced it with rebar in the bowed position......Thanks for posting the pic.

The result of applying down pressure when it is not designed for down pressure. In the vast majority of applications the rear rockshaft is for lifting not down pressure.

Thanks Barnyard, Don and Bill for the information. My fender is bent in a little and now that I can see a picture of one mounted, hooking up the harrows should be a breeze. It was almost 60 degrees and sunny here today and I wanted to start prepping the garden spot. Oh Well, it's suppose to be in the upper 70's next week. Thanks again for the help, Papa.

However, either one will work on your Cub.

I think there may have been three styles of the rear lift rod. The one that was on my 55 cub fast hitch had an adjusting nut on the back and a slip collar at the back for some movement before the down pressure came into play. It too has been reinforced with rebar welded on.

I'd like to ask a question, as I am having the same issue. These parts didn't originally come with this Cub, so I'm not sure if they're correct even though I thought it didn't matter. (this always happens after I get the parts painted! haha). There is an "extension" piece added to this particular rear rockshaft and when I try to install the lift rod (it is perfectly straight) it seems to almost hit the gas tank. You can also see that the lift isn't all the way up, so it would hit badly if I raised it up. Now.....why is that piece on the rockshaft? How would the rod work with it?

It seems like the rod would not hit the gas tank if I removed that piece and installed the rod in the lower hole, but then it would be hitting the Fender when the lift was lowered. I wanted to ask because that extension piece is there for a reason.

I just went out and took a look at mine, and it is mounted exactly like yours, except for the extension piece on the rockshaft which I don't have. My lift rod has a very slight long sweeping offset (maybe an 1" or slightly more) to move it away from the fender.

try unbolting that extension that is on your rear rockshaft. The hole in the rockshaft should then put your reach rod in exactly the correct position. Don't know why a PO installed that on there to begin with because you get plenty of "throw" with the standard hole spacing.

Your description of the rod sounds like the one on my Loboy. I can take a picture of it tonight and you can see if it is the same as yours. That might be your problem? The one on the Loboy has a major bow in it to clear the fender, and it has the collar on the back end as you described.

Mine has an off-set. I didn't put the off-sets in it, that's the way mine came. I'm sure you can bend yours to fit.

I shimmed out the left fender by placing a washer between the fender and the final.
I have an excuse. CRS.
