fast hitch plow question

I am going to pick up a '58 cub with fast hitch tomorrow. it comes with a fast hitch plow and a set of discs. I don't know anything about a cub plow. I have read about a depth control lever. does that come with the plow, or is it incorporated into the fast hitch? the plow is not currently on the tractor and I want to make sure I have all needed parts. I have seen a crank turning thing on the fast hitch, is that the depth control lever?

The depth lever is part of the fast hitch. Here are the basic components of a fast hitch plow.

The 58 would usually have a crank type depth control. The crank would be just outside the right hand fender. The earlier type fast hitch has a different set up. It's depth control is a long lever with a quadrant located on the same fender. To use the fast hitch plow the depth control is needed.

Take a look at TM Tractor's photos of the FH mounted on the tractor here; http://www.tm-tractor.com/gim/fhitch_001.htm
This is the "old" style with depth lever.

Here are some photos I pulled off Ralph's website several years ago;

The coulter seems to be missing a lot of the time. I have seen them for sale in the range of $150 -$200.

holy cow! what is the plow worth? Seems like the coulter would be worth as much as the plow!

The coulter is probably more expensive, harder to find.

Speaking of coulters has anyone tried to use something like the bracket off a little genius plow and another type coulter?

Most you find will not have the coulter. Since they don't attach to the plow, but to the fast hitch, they often go missing. For general garden plowing they are not that necessary.

Timing is everything...
Right now you might be able to get $150 - $200. In the spring $200 - $250.
Kind of hard to tell if this is a Plow Chief or Super Chief version of the L-F194 Cub Fast Hitch Plow. The Super Chief has a one-piece share/point that is relatively inexpensive to replace whereas the Plow Chief has a separate share and point, both of which get a little pricey.

I agree with Peter $150/$200. I have sold some FH plows and Haven't gotten $250 for them. I think it's even hard to get $200 out on it without a coulter attached. Spring would be the best time to sell it. You will see them listed on ebay for mucho buck with no bids.
