Farmall Cub

Hi.New member from Alberta[minus 40 something wind chill] I have a 54a blade front mounted.Do i need some different brackets to mid mount it?

I like to think of the midmount position as a mini road grader. It doesn't work so well as a "snow plow" mid mounted but it's perfect for getting the gravel back in your driveway and smoothed real nice in the spring after using it in the front position all winter snow plowing all the gravel off of it.

Welcome to the forum. You're excused from posting outside pictures until your weather warms up. For all we know you would just take a picture of the inside of your freezer. Actually, I don't think your freezer would be that cold. Brrrrrr.

Well, yes and no. That blade came with a substitute drawbar, which may have long since parted company with the rest of the blade. If you have a Fast-Hitch, you need the substitute drawbar to mid-mount the blade. If you don't have a Fast-Hitch, it allows you to keep the standard drawbar in place for regular pulling while the blade is mounted. Here are pictures of a blade mid-mounted with a Fast-Hitch.

Thanks for the replies.It looks not bad to do.The blade came front mounted on a 55 cub we bought maybe 20 years back.It and 3 others were bought new by the Muttart Foundation to clean sidewalks at their senior's apartment buildings in Calgary Ab.Apartments were sold to a private Co and they sold the cubs[for cash].This one has original tires and even the original silver seat..I have pics but need to figger out the posting yet

Any idea on length, dia. of the threaded bolt that goes through the tractor when used as a snow plow, as shown on the TM website? Not sure of the dia. on the rod I use, but it sure gets bent.

Wow! Very nice Cub! Enjoy it.

Too bad that cub has no hour meter;it would be very low.It was stored in the mantanence shop and was used as a shelf and a saw horse and had many colors of apartment paint splatterd over it so I did paint it .Now i wish I didn't. Some winters in Calgary it maybe never was used.I would like the blade belly mounted so i can get more cubs on a trailer for shows.

I'm kinda glad you did paint it, I don't think a speckled birds egg cub would look very good. Your repaint looks great however.

Reading back through this thread; we all dodged a minor bullet with our advice. We all just figured you have a regular Cub (which would be most common), but it was never mentioned, even when you said it was a '55 didn't get us off the hook, and made it worse, as that's the first year for Lo Boys. Not until you posted the picture did our advice soundly apply. For anyone reading this in the future, you can't midmount a grader blade on a Lo Boy because there is not enough room to raise it without hitting the torque tube and more important, there's nowhere to bolt the rear bracket of the blade.

It's OK. the 55 is a regular cub [although we do have a 56 lo-boy ]..Looking back the paint splash would have been interior hose paint so acetone and elbow grease might have removed it but the original paint would probly be discolored too

When it snows, the plow in front does a good job, from 6" to 2' of snow although for large snow falls multiple passes are common. When I get a load of gravel to resurface the driveway, the snow plow also does a great job -- I can place a lower edge of the plow into the gravel pile and move it and continue until it all spread out. Not that it is smooth as a whistle, but pretty good since I do what I call "back blade-ing" -- moving over the driveway backwards with the snow plow in the down position, spreading gravel.

So, when would it be advantageous to use the blade in the under-engine grader position? What tasks does it do best there?
