Farmall Cub

I'm sure this is not the ordinary project for a Cub blade - but just in case anyone has driven over a frozen hedge apple (hedge ball) especially w/a golf cart - they feel like running over a bowling ball!! LOL ! Of course they had to be right in the lane where they couldn't be avoided and too many to pick up by hand. Also good prep for the coming snow??

Folks use to pick up hedge apples and place then between the sill plate and floor joists. Idea was insect repellant.

Just looked up hedge apples. Appears folks are selling them. Dozen for $10-. Probably doesn't include shipping.

Dusti--I have two large Osage Orange trees in my yard and several surrounding my place. Since my driveway has a nice slope to it, I practice my bowling arm rolling them down the driveway and across the road to county horse/wildlife park. I like your method; saves your hands from getting sap on them.

I don't have the same problem, but I have used the blade several times to push leaves off the lawn onto the garden. This was taken several years ago and that is my grandson on the cub.

Guess I'm a little slow on the draw - saw hedge apples on Craig's list for $1 each in one place and $10/doz. another! Lost several hundred $$'s if they're selling! LOL ! Dusty B

I don't remember seeing them in NE. PA. One night in Va. I was driving down the road. When my headlights went on this tree along side the road. I thought look at the size of those green apples. I was ready to go get my salt shaker and have a good green apple. Man was I disappointed.

Around here, we call them Horse apples. I know if you cut em and put em in your cabinets, it will keep out cockroaches. As a kid, we used to bowl with them and some cans. We also alternated between having fights with them and ripe persimmons.

Yep, horse apples is what we call them also.

Yep, called horse apples around here too. And the tree is called both osage orange and bois d'arc. (pronounced boat ark.)

Here in TN we call the tree "BO-DOCK". So, that's where that came from.

I can see the bo dock pronounceation. I tried to spell it like we pronounce it, It is said as one long word, boatark, bodark. You get the idea. Termanoligy (sp) and pronounceation are regional.
