Farmall Cub

Would I Cub ever be worth $15000. And I have never seen a 46 Cub. My 48 with hydraulics and other equipment cost me a whopping 1400. Just wondering what you guys think. hehehe BTW, this is not my ad, I swear.

Obviously the reason for the price is the rarity of a prototype 1946 Cub!

What really makes it rare is the "prototype" hood for the late 50s/early 60s models,as well as the "prototype" later version touch control. after taking another look at the hood, are the emblems custom made?

All that information and no serial# or cast codes. IMHO he does not know Cubs or trying to pull a fast one. John, looks like stainless behind 56-59 chrome.

Well he may be as messed up as I am on old smokie, he may have that much in it, I have a little over $ 5000.00 in old smokie and I will never get half of it back if I was going to sell her.

I believe, common misconception. Restore an antique tractor and sell for a profit.

Like Chief, I have more money invested in my tractors than they would sell for. I just consider it an expense for having working tractors. For me the tractor's worth is not in selling price, but previous performed worked and the ability for future work.

Why does the weight of the tractor vary 1414 pounds? Is there another one behind it I don't see?

Maybe it's $15,000 because it has a battery box front AND lid!

Out of curiosity i gave him a call. He is an older sounding, or possibly other problems, gentlemen who cannot possibly be in error about it. He inherited it from his uncle, and KNOWS it is a 46, and that they started making cubs in 37, not 47. The $15,000 price is accurate and he would do a little dickering for someone who is really interested. I thanked him and said "Goodbye".

John, I had to smile when I saw that you called him. I have often wondered what a seller in such a situation would say if they did get a call. To continue the prototype theory. Don't I see prototype doglegs similar, if not the same as, those on the late 50's -early 60's Cub?

I see IH even tied out the short ear dash on this prototype so the engineers could determine if it would work when they introduced it several years later.

Anyone who has ever done a full rebuild on a cub or any other non rare tractor has way more in it than they will ever be able to sell it for, unless they have their own engine machine shop that is. Even then they will never get the money back for their time. With me it was a case of engines getting to the point of needing rebuilt, so while it was down I went through the rest of it, replacing seals, checking bearings, replacing any hardware that was getting questionable, etc. When it was all done they got a 50/50 paint job, which means it looks OK at 50 yards and 50 miles an hour.

50/50 paint job...LOL!
