Metal type of 1948 Cub Steering wheel?

Postby farmergiffIV » Tue Oct 08, 2013 3:12 pm

I need to know what type of metal was used on 1948 Farmall Cubs for the steering wheel. A buddy of mine is going to help me weld the spokes that broke this week and he asked me what type of metal it was. Mild Steel?

Yes, mild steel. Probably 1018 or 1020. It should weld easily.

If you want to dress it up. Me and my brother used to build custom spoke wheels for old cars. We would "grab" some old grocery carts left somewhere and break loose those wire spokes off of them. They welded up and looked realy pretty,
Tractors are like watermelons: the RED is good and you throw away the GREEN.
