Farmall Cub

when she fell down the rabbit hole. Was finishing up the mowing for neighbor, had the despeeder engaged, thankfully. I was creeping through weeds taller than the front tires, and suddenly the front was going down. I jammed the brakes, and got off and looked things over.



The left front wheel had dropped into a hole deeper than the top of the wheel, and the right rear wheel was actually off the ground. the balance was so close that whne the neighbor stepped on the right side of the drawbar the left front tire would raise up a ways, but not enough to be able to back out. It definitely could not pull itself out, but one of my other cubs was there. the 2 of them together still could not bring it out. I brought the Ranger down and tied it to the drawbar, and it brought the mowing cub right out.

John, It was nice talking with you at Cubarama, and I'm glad there were no injuries. I wonder if the Mott helped to keep you from rolling over.

I remember when it happened to me and old smokie, I was mowing for neighbor also, I worked till dark trying to get her out, left her there untill the next day and got the other neighbor to help me pull her out with his 4 X 4 truck, everything was fine

Sorry to hear of your mishap. Thankfully, you and the Cub are both fine.

Wow... I would have needed a new set of underwear after that incident. I'm glad you are OK!

The pictures make it appear a little worse than it actually was. The top of the front wheel was below ground level, but had hit bottom, so that was as far as it was going. I did not try to push it over any further to see how close it was. I may be crazy, but not stupid. As heavy as the flail is and the way it sticks out to the side with the weight on the right arm of the rock shaft, it definitely helped stabilize it. When I went back and looked later, I could see white plastic (probably drain pipe) at the bottom of the hole. I suspect it was either a gray water drain or a drain field pipe that was not put together properly and dirt was washing down into it and out the end, creating a small sink hole. Looking around I could see what possibly looked like another one a little further on, so I told Ralph he would have to cut that area with something else. I'd had enough excitement for the day. As I stated in an earlier post, my life is never dull.

One of the problems is I tend to push them beyond what they were ever expected to do. Of course the fact that i could not see the wheels, much less the ground and was in a place I had never mowed before did not help. Not really a very smart thing to be doing, though the ground had been walked, the hole was well hidden. I went back and took another look, and the wheel had not reached the bottom of the hole, the hole was a little over 24 inches deep, and the wheel had slid down the side and had enough side ways pressure it pushed out a ledge and stopped about half way or a little more down. if I had been 4 or 5 inches more to the left I would have straddled it and never known it was there, at least till the next pass anyway.

Good Lord, John that could have been a very serious situation. I'm glad neither you nor the cub were harmed
