Dave:

Can you clarify that ? That has me slightly confused. What is in the system ? Why is a voltage reducer required ?

Its one of your favorites Rudi...A 12 volt conversion....I changed it to a 12 v alternator, and battery, put a voltmeter in, and left the ignition 6 volt by putting a voltage reducer in front of the coil thereby leaving the 6 volt coil, points and condenser as is (was)....That was a couple of years ago and it has been fine up till recently..Also I finagled a construction crew to bring me a couple tri-axle loads of topsoil out of a sewer line project down the road and I've been fine grading it with my York rake....Just came in after about 3 hours....Cub ran like a champ...???????.....Oh well it'll surface...New coil on Monday anyhow and check out the other ignition parts.....

Hi guys, Just mowed for a couple of hours and the issue did done arise again.... As Boss suggested I limped it into the shop and shut it down, pulled the coil wire and spun it and got a weak yeller spark....The coil was hotter than heck (couldn't touch it and leave my knuckle on it) so I expect that is as I kinda thought, the coil is the culprit....The final test will be tomorrow if my new coil arrives on schedule....Hey Blair did you have the opportunity to check your spark....Thanks again to everyone for their input....Dave :big afro:

Changed the coil, and checked and cleaned contacts on the cap, hit the ends of the spark plug wires with some emery paper (cap side), cleaned the points, rotor and connections and put it back together....Did some clutch adjustment, and greased the TO bearing, took the blades off the mower and touched them up with the grinder....Fired right up and ran it around a bit...Now I have to wait for the grass to grow to try it out....I'll let your know how I make out Blair...Dave :tractor:

OK, it wasn't the coil.....I had some plowing to do so I plowed for about 5 min and it started breaking down....So now its in the shop with the bonnet off and now I'm ordering parts....Took a compression test 115 on all cylinders( it had cooled off pretty much)....It developed a noticeable skip and one plug was kinda fouled....When I pulled the wires of the cap earlier 4 and 2 didn't seem to affect it all that much...3 was noticeable when I pulled it from the cap....So I figure I'll put new plugs, points, cap and condenser and wires on it as long as its bonnet is off....I did try fiddling with the choke to see if that would even out the engine but it didn't....If it still don't work hmmmmmmm.....Nah it will :D .....If it don't I'll put in a call to Mr Hog..... :D

Yes, if NAPA didn't have them in stock today they would be in the store tomorrow morning.

Cost me 36.99 for plugs, points, wires, condenser, and cap....No sales tax...Medium USPS box shipping.....Plus around here auto parts clerks move on to the dollar store after they practice their sarcasm skills and spend 20 minutes on the phone in the middle of your order....Besides I got a million things to do and another tractor to mow with....And I'm practicing my patience and good humor :||): and don't want it screwed up by some :censored: :censored: Napa clerk...

Thanks Dave. Sorry to hear it wasn't the coil. I think next week I'll dig into mine and see how it goes.

Looking forward to your next update!
