Help identifying and pricing cub middle buster

Postby Clint Carter » Mon Jun 10, 2013 12:11 am

I ran across this middle buster the other day and i know it is missing some parts like the depth wheel. I think it would be hard to find the parts to build it back to were it would be complete. This one looks kind of big to me like it might be for a Super A or 140 but not sure so that is were i need some expert opinions.
Then with all the parts missing what would it be worth?

Appears to be a C-16, but the top mounting system has been totally modified. Looks like it might've been used on a super A maybe. They did make an A-16 middle buster also I believe. Someone who knows more will probably chime in later. As far as the depth wheels, I've never seen one with the wheel still on it. Kind of leads me to believe it wasn't really needed. My grandfather's worked well without it. I finally found one, but I haven't had a chance to hook it up and use it yet. I got lucky finding mine. A local gentleman was selling a couple of cubs with different equipment mounted on them and I talked him into selling the one I have separately for $200, and it is practically new. Did I mention I got lucky? Lol. I have seen asking prices as high as $700, but $300-$350the seems about average on the few I have seen advertised. That being said, even with missing parts, even if it has been modified, if it is something you really want like I was wanting mine, the best time to buy it is when you find it. The C-16 is as hard to find as hen's teeth around here.

Something about the top part does look a little different, but otherwise it looks just like mine. Sorry, saw the rest of the pics. The top part is indeed right much different but everything else looks like my middlebuster. Mine is an A-16 for a Super A. The paint is gone but it's in excellent mechanical shape. I think I gave like $75 for it but that was 15 or so years ago.....the gauge/depth wheel was optional and I don't think it is needed at least in most circumstances.

Was curious about the differences at the top. Do the brackets that fit to the final drive housings look like they are Super A size or Cub size? Can't really tell in the pictures.

What are you going to use to on, regular or fh cub? I made one for fh, but my plow is not that big. Works great for sub soiling, laying off rows and plowing taters by switching shovels. Can be moved side to side, you just have to get off tractor to do it.

Clint I will take you some pictures. The one you posted is mighty close, if not exactly what I have. I was trying to do about three things at the same time when I was reading this morning and got some of his pictures confused with yours.

Clint,

I was trying to out-run the rain this evening so I didn't get pictures. I looked at my parts book and I am 99% sure you have a A-16 for the Super A and similar. They could come with a coulter or a gauge wheel but both were optional. Will get you some pictures but it looks complete to me.

Clint, hope these pictures will help you. This is my Super A middlebuster. My top bar that goes between the lift arms is bent but it's usable.
