Farmall Cub

Anxious to see if my nine year effort in retoring my Cub had been successful, I temporarily connected a source for fuel. I added fuel and I quickly pulled the starter. The starter turned the motor, but it did not hit a lick. I told myself, "Mike, what did you expect". Puzzled I put a little more thought into what I needed to do to start the Cub and realized that I had not pulled out the ignition switch or pull the choke. After correcting these missed steps, I pulled the starter switch a couple more times and what do you know it sputtered. I gave the starter switch a third pull and she started immediately. I let her run for short while to see if the oil pressure gauge showed any life. It did not. I shut her down and primed it again, this time using the outside port on the block. I had previously used the port inside the block where the oil filter is located. I started her again and this time the oil gauge eventually responded as well as the voltage regulator. I did have one issue that developed and I am not sure if this normal or if I need to take some correction action. After pulling on the choke, gas began to drip from the drip plug on the carberator. Is this Normal? If it is not, what steps should I take to correct it? I must say I am very excited about being so close to completing this restoration. I am down to fixing the hood and then on to the implements.

While trying to start a cub, it is normal for some gas to drip. It is an updraft carburetor, and excess gas will pool. That is exactly why the weep hole is there. It especially will happen if cranking several tries, and with the choke shut. Sounds normal from here!

Thanks. Rudi, I am happy to report that I am pleased with the results of 6V generator. As for the spacers, I am not sure what benefit they provided. They were under the manual lift. The only thing that I can think of is they provided some sort of leverage. The original owner had put them there along with adding angle iron to the rock shaft lifting arm. When I get the tractor put back to its original, from the factory setup, I will be able to determine if the spacers actually improved the manual lift's capabilities. I have encountered a slight set back though in my restoration. My carb was initially just dripping gas as I started the cub. Now, nothing changed, it leaks out about as fast as add fuel. Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts for me?

Check needle & seat, check float level, reset float level if necessary.

Thank you. I can not wait either. My next big decision will be which implement will I restore first. It came with a breaking plow, a set of cultivators, a sickle bar mower, a belly mower and a seeder and fertilizer bucket.

Thank you. That is a good question. I originally bought it to use as a mower. Now that I have invested so much time and effort I hate the thought of scratching it all up. If I decide to use it for show, I agree that the planter setup is really sharp and that is the route I will go. Now that I have gotten hooked, I may have to get a Cub for each implement.
