Woods 42F (Fasthitch version) shaft

Postby Dale Finch » Mon Apr 22, 2013 11:33 pm

As I have mentioned before, I am looking for a Front Universal Shaft for my Woods 42F (Fasthitch) Mower (item #2 page 8):

http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/OEM%20Implement%20and%20Attachment%20Manuals/Woods%20Mower%20Manuals/PDFs/Woods%2042%20F-4%20for%20Farmall%20Cub%20with%20Fast%20Hitch/Woods%2042%20F-4%20for%20Farmall%20Cub%20with%20Fast%20Hitch.pdf

I know in an earlier post, someone mentioned that they had fabricated this, and unless someone has one they would be willing to sell, it looks like I too will have to fabricate one. Is there anyone who has specs on this shaft (the manual only shows a line drawing) or who would be willing to loan theirs to me (I will be at Boss' VA Fest)? At the very least, perhaps someone could take detailed photos with measurements?

Also, I have NO idea where the various pieces might be purchased, such as the splined female PTO end, so that information would be great!

Thanks for any help.

Dale, I will be at Boss's and could throw mine on the trailer if you would like to take pictures and measurements from it. It's a woods RM 42 but the shafts should be the same.

Dale, you might want to PM Rick Prentice, he had to scrounge PTO shaft parts, when he built the dyno. Once you have the info, a good driveline shop should be able to help put it together.

Chris, that would be great! And I promise not to steal it!!!

I definitely will contact him if he doesn't chime in here. And is "drive line shop" the right term for where I would go for help with this? Thanks for the suggestion.

Any other ideas/offers? I already have done the first mowing with the regular Woods 42 on my '53, but after reworking and installing this fasthitch assembly, I want to use it!! :big smirk:

Hi Dale. I saw your PM and then saw this post. Here's a copy of my PM to you so others can also read it. Sorry so late. My little mini laptop has been acting up and it just came back to me from the Texas HP repairshop :D
Rick
Hi Dale. To answer one question you have----no, I don't have anything right now. I actually need to find a front shaft for my IH tiller that I own, but my remaining back half has a bigger multiple spline setup and I can't find any anyplace. I do know you can order the yoke that slips onto the cub pto from a Woods dealer. I ordered one when I built the dyno. I had a local truck shop make a driveshaft with the ends all welded and balanced to 3000 rpm's and that was very expensive($340). I'd say your best shot is placing a wanted ad for the part you need. Someone has a extra laying around and will eventually come forward. The Toledo based shop that made my shaft was "Fleet Pride". It's a big truck outfit that services brakes, driveshafts, clutches, transmissions, etc. Good luck. If I run across anything, I'll let you know.

I've always heard them called driveline shops. Never heard of a drilling shop. We have several in the area, and a couple even have driveline in the name. Wansley Machine & Driveline is one near me in Ellisville, MS. If nothing else they may answer some of your questions. If they have measurements, they can build it. Now as for the cost, no telling. Depends if they have it on the shelf or have to build it.

dbboss, that "drilling shop" was due to my phone auto-finishing and my poor proofreading!!! I went back and corrected it...thanks!

As soon as I have access to my computer, I will research these suggestions. I thank you for your advice and welcome it! Will fill you in on my results as I get more information.

Tim, I was pretty sure that someone had posted having done this. As I look into this I may contact you for help, if that's OK? Oh, how did it do...OK?! Thanks.

works fine, still using it, did you have any parts of the old shaft or is it all missing?

Weaver, or WEASLER?

Weasler is a company that makes PTO shafts and components.

Just found a Weasler catalog. I think this is the part you need for the PTO shaft on the Cub:

1050610 AE00005 Tractor Yoke Spring-Lok Quick Connect .98” x 10 Spline

The only thing I have is the splined shaft with a u-joint attached to the mower. It will probably have to be next week before I get to persue this. The grass has grown like crazy at the farm and I have too much to do this weekend without internet connection. My research on this will continue...

Thanks!

Hey there! Just a few days before the VA Fest and I wanted to remind you to throw that FH shaft into your car before you head out! (assuming you are still willing to let me get my hands on it!!)

Looking forward to all the fun! See you there. I'll be the one with a '52 getting a new front transmission seal , so feel free to jump in and help! :{_}:
