Nipple size, thread pattern

Postby Dan England » Tue May 17, 2005 8:10 am

I have an IH carb to install on a cub. I will purchase a nipple for the gas inlet as I am using a rubber hose for the gas line. Can someone provide the size and thread pattern for the nipple so that I don't damage the threads of the carb inlet. Thanks, Dan

Dan,
Have you considered using a 5/16th steel brake line for the fuel line?
The fittings that come on them are a perfect fit. I think George Willer has a thread in the "How To" section.

Hey Harold: I am in Monroe today. I believe both Khaylin and your daughter graduate tonight. We will return to Waldo tomorrow. As to the gas line, I am trying to get the cub running before I leave. It has rubber so my quickest fix is to go back with the same. Perhaps a steel one at a later time. Maybe we will meet tonight at the grad. I may be callling for advice if what I plan doesn't solve the problem. Dan

Dan,

Don't do it!!! There is no pipe nipple that fits the thread. !/4" pipe seems close, but forceing it to fit will damage the threads.

The carburetor is threaded 20 threads/inch as Bigdog said.

The 1/4 pipe nipple is threaded 18 threads/inch.

If you must use rubber hose (not recommended) buy a 5/16" brake line fitting and ferrule and a short piece of 5/16" tubing and you are temporarily in business. This will provide a way to use a temporary tank when you have to run the engine with the hood off.

BTW... congratulations to your daughter! I assume she is graduating from University of Louisiana at Monroe? My son Joel is on the faculty.

George: I have picked up the brake line and will soon find out how it is going to work. Harold's daughter and my grand daughter will be graduating from high school tonight. What department does your son teach in at ULM? I recently retired after teaching in the Biology Department at Southern Arkansas University (Magnolia, AR) for 30+ years. I know most of the biologist in the several Arkansas universities but don't know the profs in LA. My grand daughter will start college this fall but is undecided at this time whether it will be at ULM or SAU. If at ULM, she might have the pleasure of taking classes under your son. I will let you know how the carb repair goes. Dan

Dan,

He's an assistant professor of mass communications and manages a radio station, KXUL. He also manages the university web site (and is a huge help to me) He wrote the code for our web page... amazing to see him just typing out the code without using any program. http://members.toast.net/gwill/

A proud Papa can send you to this site... scroll down to the third article:

He spends a lot of time testifying before the FCC and other bureacrats... he's had good home training!

George: Your son is certainly a nice looking fellow and the article is very interesting. After a survey of your many areas of interest and looking at the quality of work which you produced in these areas, I believe that father and son blessed with multiple talents. I know that you are proud of your son and I bet that he is equally proud of you. Dan

Dan,

Thank you!

Joe is very talented. He lives alone and does his own cooking and housekeeping, well enough to make most women envious. I couldn't cook food fast enough to stay alive!
