Knew it wouldn't take long for that swinging drawbar to see a fresh coat of paint! Lookin' good!

New shoes for Rex'48. I can't remember how long ago I painted these rims in anticipation of mounting up these new tires (purchased from a member of this forum). These are the same type of tire that was on Rex '48 when we got him in 1965. So pleased to be able to duplicate them.

I'll be attaching the wheel weights next.

Rob, I've been ready to fire him up since I started this project.
Here's the current key points.

1. The engine is at the shop for everything it needs.
2. I finally picked up the crank I dropped off in January to be checked out.
3. The head has been flattened and I need to pick that up.
4. The engine will have - New Pistons, rings, connecting Rod Bearings, valve seats ground, valves ground.
5. The main work yet to do is to finish the hood.
6. Everything else is painted and waiting for assemble.

Now it's just wait for the shop to finish the engine and then time, time, time to work on my baby.

That is an awesome restore.I hate to ask but,what does a total restore like your doing cost?I know it would vary for everyone depending on how much labor you do yourself and how many tools you have and where you get your parts from.Was just wondering how much it's going to cost me.

Parts can run anywhere from $800 to $2000. If the engine needs to be done add another $1000. This is just the parts and machining on the engine.

There is more but that is all I can think of. Cecil's number is right on. Without tools - I will have 6 times what you could have purchase a new one for in 1948. The amount of fun I've had is well worth it. The biggest single expense is the engine and the tires.

Get into your Cub and get going.

That's about what I figured, I've already rebuilt my motor,all brand new except crank and pistons,but now I am on to seals and bearing and such for tranny,drives, ect plus paint.I think I may rattle can all of it except the tins, hope my comes out half as good as yours, keep up the great work,can't wait to see it finished.

Good Evening! I would like to ask a question, if I may? I too am restoring a '48 Cub (#54643) and as simple as it should be I need a radiator cap. There was not one on the tractor when I got it. When looking for one I have found several but none for the year model I have. Does it really matter? If so which one do I need? Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.
