Knowing I don't have to lift them again to install them - makes a world of difference :D

Nice work, Ken. From the looks of the hitch hole in the drawbar, it probably spent most of its 'working years' in the Magic Barn. :) :)

New shoes for Rex'48. I can't remember how long ago I painted these rims in anticipation of mounting up these new tires (purchased from a member of this forum). These are the same type of tire that was on Rex '48 when we got him in 1965. So pleased to be able to duplicate them.

I'll be attaching the wheel weights next.

Rob, I've been ready to fire him up since I started this project.
Here's the current key points.

1. The engine is at the shop for everything it needs.
2. I finally picked up the crank I dropped off in January to be checked out.
3. The head has been flattened and I need to pick that up.
4. The engine will have - New Pistons, rings, connecting Rod Bearings, valve seats ground, valves ground.
5. The main work yet to do is to finish the hood.
6. Everything else is painted and waiting for assemble.

Now it's just wait for the shop to finish the engine and then time, time, time to work on my baby.

Happy Father's Day to all you Father's out there.

That is an awesome restore.I hate to ask but, what does a total restore like your doing cost?I know it would vary for everyone depending on how much labor you do yourself and how many tools you have and where you get your parts from. Was just wondering how much it's going to cost me.

Parts can run anywhere from $800 to $2000. If the engine needs to be done add another $1000. This is just the parts and machining on the engine.

Let's see what I can do here.

Tools New
1. Sandblasting Cabinet - Carbide Nozzle, better gun than Norther Tool Gun, Blasting Media
2. Bigger Air Compressor to Run the Blasting Cabinet
3. Angle Die Grinder
4. Jack Stands
5. HVLP Sprayer
6. Gear Pullers
7. Toaster Oven for Bearing Heating
8. Valve Spring Compressor
9. Tap and Die Set
10. Specialized Solid Tungsten 2 Flute Drill - to remove snapped head-bolt.
11. Lots of Sanding Supplies
12. Wire Feed Welder
13. Shop Press 20 Ton

Already Owned
1. Oxy/Acetylene Torch
2. Pretty Good Set of Tools - Always need more tools.

Items Purchased for Rex '48 - Major Items From Memory
1. Total Seal Set - Every Seal, Every Gasket
2. Springs for Clutch and Brake
3. New Brake Pads and Drums with locking bolts.
4. Used Final Drive - My Shaft was scored
5. Used Crank - Mine was cracked and could not be welded
6. Seat Reupholstered to factory Original
7. I elected to purchase a polished stainless steel handmade muffler
8. New Battery Box and Lid. My Bother made the new mount.
9. New Rubber all the way around.
10. Engine - Boiled Out, Bored Out, New Pistons, Rings and Bearings
11. Used Governor. New Governor Spring
12. Original Woven Wiring Harness from Brillman
13. Custom Replacement Tag for Delco Generator
14. Used Fan Assembly
15. 30-35 Cans of Case IH 2150 Irin Guard Red
16. 20 - 30 Cans of Rust-O-Leum Primer (I elected to use cans, because my shop is TOO SMALL TO USE MY HVLP SPRAYER
17. Body Filler and the fun learning how to use it.
18. New Decals

There is more but that is all I can think of. Cecil's number is right on. Without tools - I will have 6 times what you could have purchase a new one for in 1948. The amount of fun I've had is well worth it. The biggest single expense is the engine and the tires.

Get into your Cub and get going. :D :D :D

Good Evening! I would like to ask a question, if I may? I too am restoring a '48 Cub (#54643) and as simple as it should be I need a radiator cap. There was not one on the tractor when I got it. When looking for one I have found several but none for the year model I have. Does it really matter? If so which one do I need? Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.
