Ken:

Nice find. You need to give Dad the flashlight. With his seeker skills - and you digging, who knows what is in that old barn. You may be very surprised. Either way, nice box - nothing a little TLC won't cure. Did you find the front and the top? Keep looking if not. The light looks in good shape. Should be easily restorable.

Hi Rudi, the bottom and top rusted away years ago according to Dad. The front may still be in the barn. I am pleased to report he found the swivel drawbar to today, I've not seen that since the early 1970's. It's been a good week.

Thankfully I think Norm Quay makes the replacement fronts and tops ... good place to get em. They will be just like originals from all accounts. Glad you found the drawbar :D

Bob, my wife and me, had a good belly laugh about your post this morning. Given that our barn has been there for about 180 years - who knows what we'll find the deeper we get. The nice thing is - we've always owned this farm since 1799, so it's all our family heritage stuff.

Thanks for the laugh.... :D :D

Steering Wheel Repair

Pretty happy with the way this came out. I followed the instructions from the forum that uses the JB Weld.

Lesson Learned!

Postby PVF1799 » Sun May 26, 2013 9:20 pm

In our rush to disassemble - I did not loosen the left-hand final drive crown nut, before the final drive was removed from the tractor. Here's a couple pictures of doing it the hard way. I kept it from turning by putting a crowbar in the lug studs and letting it push against the press.

Even at that I still had a GREAT DEAL of FUN - Hope keeps raining - Just kidding......
