You know, your Cub would turn out nice if you paid attention to the details. :D
I hope my '48 will turn out at least half as nice!

Hi everyone - I'm back from a vacation at Assateague Island, MD. Working on some tasks like winterizing the RV and prepping for our first hard freeze which is coming this week. I'll be back at Rex soon.

I can tell you that I've got some big decisions to make on the engine. Found out some information about the block at Cecil's NE CubFest - Now it's time to decide what the wallet can afford on the engine. I'll be fixing up the radiator from the fresh solder job (thanks Cecil) and working on assembling the front bolster and axles' - whilst I pontificate just what I'm gonna do the the engine.

More updates soon-I hope.

What's wrong with the engine block?
If replacing, one of those engine blocks with no S/N may be just the key! You could stamp your original S/N on it.

Call HamiltonbobsCubs. They sell blocks at a very reasonable price. Looks like they have recently ventured into cubs as well as the numbered series tractors.

Hi All. I've received a few emails wondering where o' where has little Rex' 48 gone? Into each restoration a little bit of home and farm repair must fall.....It's a busy fall season including 10 days of vacation on the Maryland Coast, prepping the farm for winter and getting some items done for my blushing bride of 36 years - that are ALL WELL OVERDUE, due to my Rex addiction. :D

I'll be getting back into the swing things soon. Pix will start flowing again.

FINALLY - got a little bit of Rex '48 time. At the NECF - Cecil soldered the overflow tube and neck onto my radiator - I touched up the paint before the weather got to cold yesterday afternoon. I was able to get the front axle mounted back into place. Gosh - it felt good to get back at Rex '48.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Rex '48

A little progress has been made thanks to Cecil.

1. The engine has been assessed where he gets his engines done.
2. The connecting rod number has been supplied to him so the right piston set can be ordered.
3. The valves are being ground again thanks to Cecil.

The engine will be bored out. New valve guides will be installed. We broke one, two were cracked. We may end up with some valve seats - to early to tell. Well sometime in the Q1 '14 I'll be putting Rex '48 back together.

I guess the paint will be well cured before I drive Rex '48 in the spring. Never expected this to take so long :D .

I don't understand why we are always suprised by this. I've never heard anyone say it went a whole lot quicker than I thought (unless it's about the amount of money in the Cub fund!)

Merry Christmas!

Valves are ground and ready to go. No new seats needed just a little adjustment on the ones there.

A little progress. While I was having the crankshaft assessed - I had the head looked at. In places it was .003 to .004 off. It's being flattened. :D Total cost of this service $60.

I figured what the heck - I'm into for this much what's $60 more

Happy New Year to All From Ken and Pat Rau

The head has been ground and is ready to be picked up.

The crank is being ground and should be ready in a few days. I'll then have the numbers needed for the bearings to be ordered for the block and the connecting rods. Wow - in a few weeks I may have the block on the engine stand for assembly and paint. Good Start to a New Year.

Planning to unveil Rex '48 at Cecil's Spring Mini-CubFest in April.
