Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005
The engine is coming together - for those of you who were not at the NE Mini CubFest at Cecil's - here are some pix of Rex '48 being assembled. We had a few challenges - Like where did all the parts go from the dis-assembly 16 months ago. Once located - it proceeded nicely. BTW - the parts everyone (including me) accused me of losing were actually in a bag under the gaskets on Cecil's bench. I had left them in the block when it went to the shop.
Thanks to Cecil and Scott - we made a lot of progress.
We had to shorten the dome on the pistons just a bit to ensure they clear the head.
This is were we had to leave it - Left to do Valve Keepers and the lock peripherals.

Well all - I made the plunge - Some of you will agree with my choice and I'm sure some will disagree. At the CubFest this weekend at Cecil's I was able to compare Cubs with both size tires. I chose these.

Looks Great, Ken. I'll not say anything about your choice of tires... They'll look great and you'll get a little bit of extra ground speed!

Yea, good choice on the tires!!! That's what I've put on my tractors and have always been happy with them. One tire dealer ordered something from an off-brand company, and they looked like crap when they were mounted, like they were just not the correct size at all. I made him take them off and get Carlisle tires.

Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005
Today I got lazy and took the rear rims with tires to the local shop and had them unmount the turf tires 8x24 Goodyear Diamond Side walls. This weekend I will get them primed and painted. This evening I spent a couple of hours carefully cleaning the inside and outside of the rims.
Tomorrow pictures....Lastly You still clearly see the FIRESTONE MADE IN USA stamp inside the rim

The newly flattened head is now painted and ready for install. BTW this is IH Iron Guard 2150 Red - Not sure why it looks this color in the photo.

Ken, I made my blast cabinet big enough to take rear rims. No more eating rust and feeling like a porcupine!

Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005
Finally got up the nerve to get bat the hood for Rex '48 . I had worked on it extensively on the back half. The Friendly folks at the the NE Cub Fest Welded up the brackets and made some repairs almost a year ago now. Since this is the part of the tractor ya'll will see first I guess I put it off till last. Painting all the parts was easy - this one makes me nervous as it's SOOOOOO VISIBLE. Anyways yesterday I did;
1. Some metal bumping on the last dent.
2. Sanded the inside of the hood
3. Sanded the scratches out of the primer.
4. Filled the weld marks with Aluminized Filler
5. Using standard filler (FUZION) - I filled the pitting in the very front of the hood - sanded that off....
6. Primed the inside of the hood with Sandable Filling Primer
7. Primed the outside with Sandable Primer.
8. I also painted the inside of the rims to seal the primer - Thanks Rob in NH
9. I cleaned the gasket area from the painted head down to bare metal.
Now she sits to dry in the sauna that is our weather. Pics below.

Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005
The hood is done on the underside. The top had a guide-coat applied then a bunch of hand wet sanding. Today I'll apply two more primer coats and when cured will wet sand again.
Tires will be mounted on the rims this week
