Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005
Installed this between conference calls today. One more piece ready to install. You can't see the numbers but they are there. Also, the place I got this starter checked over, gave me the correct type of paper for under the brush cover. I was pleased to not have to tape it up the way it was when I took it apart for painting.

New amp meter ordered!
The original was just not going to be restored. There was loose rust all inside the glass, the insulators crumbled in my hand. I've mounted the original in a prominent place in my shop. Could not bring myself to discard it. I specifically wanted this gauge because its made in the USA and close to the original as I could find.
Other stuff - last rim primed, platform first coat of red, choke and starter wires primed, final drive in etank, serial number tag removed so I can etank that the bolster. This was today's activities, along with the starter tag posts......

Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005
Had a pretty productive weekend. Here's some pix and narrative.
Finish Painted
Choke and Starter Rods
Brake Rods, Clevis's and Nuts
Light Switch and Knob.
The left hand final drive - Is Out of the eTank for the hand work of final cleaning.
Final Drive (Left) Primed - Not sure why it looks like there is a run in the paint - but can ensure you it isn't else it would be wiped down and done over.
Hi hijacked my wife's plant hanger to hold things - Advised her it needed painting anyhow.
I spent a lot of time on the radiator. Very carefully removed all seeds, spider webs, etc, with a fine wire. Straightened all the fins very carefully with a variety of small hand tools. Got most of the tarnish off the top housing. Was glad to get the manufacturing name plate fully visible and readable.
Last Rim Now Finished. Happy with the result. The finish is better that the other side. I feel it's because I eTanked it, then sand blasted....
The bearing and seals for the front spindles will be picked up tomorrow....More fun tomorrow night...
Hope you enjoy the pix and narrative,

Ray - I'll be putting the front wheel hubs on this week - those parts are in. I've got to place a huge order to TM soon...The engine still needs to go to Napa. This seems to be taking forever.....I won't get impatient and start cutting corners however...Came to far to do that now.
Simple answer to your question is I expect main components going back together in 4-6 weeks. Lots of this depends on how many weeks I'll be out of town on business.....
for your comments.

Front Bolster Fresh Out of the eTank
Hi all - this is just out of tank, having been rinsed inside and out. Now I'll let it dry in the sun so I can get after it for the final cleanup before priming. This piece sure gave the eTank a solid workout. Lots of sticky stuff all over - now all gone.

Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005 - New Ammeter Install
Bought this from Steiner - Made in USA.
Installed and waiting for the rest of the tractor. Also - the bolster went back into the eTank for another day or so....Too much rust was still coming off during the hand clean-up process.

Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005 - Head Final Cleaning
Got the head cleaned both sides to my satisfaction. Lots of delicate dremel tool with wire wheel work. The one cylinder had a heavy deposit of carbon. All gone now - ready for primer till engine assembly.
One interesting point in this photo. You can see where the casting date was supposed to be if you look close - but only the ends are there.

Re: My Restoration of Rex '48 - #21005 - More Painting
Before work this morning I got this done.
I had this all clean last evening - got to the shop this morning to find it had lightly rusted overnight. Back into the cabinet - then primed immediately after it was removed and cleaned.
This is the first coat of IH Red 2150 - I did not get to the second coat in 30 minutes or less - now I'll have to put the finish coat on, on Thursday morning.
