Wiring harness

Postby kylev » Fri May 13, 2005 11:29 pm

Anyone have exact lenghts for making a wiring harness? Also what size wire and type should I use. The old wire look much like wire I use to wire buildings. THHN??

12 gauge??
I got the connectors down pat I just want to make sure I have big enough wire to do the job.

I was looking at getting the wire loom off of ebay to make it look like original.

I believe you can buy a complete harness that looks just like the original.
Try O.E.M tractor parts. and many more I just cant think of right now

kylev. I think BigDog has posted wireharness wire gauge size some time back. I went the easy route and bought a new one of excellent quality from http://www.cngco.com/oem.electric.html . I also took a few pictures of the process if your in need (4 position switch).

In passing, can anyone tell me if the plastic tube that the wires pass inside (the conduit) is still available commercially?

Pat, it is called wire loom and is available from several sources today. You can find it by doing a web search for wire loom.
The original cub wiring harnesses were in a cloth or braided loom rather than a plastic loom.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Your serial number should go with the 7 wire cable, 54252R92. (After change to regulator, before adding the ground wires).

kylev. I'm not sure they would help you as I have a "cut out relay" and "4-position" switch. I used the 6 wire harness and as Jim said, you need the 7 wire. I think you may have a 3-position switch. Anyhow, here are a few pics for any help they may be ............

It probably doesn't pass policy police scrutiny but for the plastic loom, I used one of those modern wire looms that stereo and automotive places sell. I think I got this one from NAPA. They come in different diameters by about 10' long. They can be found in either black or red and they have a slit down the middle where you can feed your wires. It holds up real well and if I have to replace a wire, the loom is very forgiving. As I recall, I think I bought 1/2".

I went with the factory harness. Cost about $50 from C % G. I think I may make one next time. But it is nice to have it all 'sewn' up and the lengths and connectors right.

There is someone around named 'wireharness' that also makes em up.
