Clearly the carb inlet's been stripped out at least twice now. It's a leaker.
What little thread that's left is definitely 9/16-18.
The carb came with an oddball compression fitting, one side 5/16" compression, the other side 9/16-18 threaded.
Is the hole too big for a helicoil?
Should I just JB weld the compression fitting into the carb ala Lurker Carl?

I JB welded mine in and it is very successful, because in my ignorance I had never heard tell of helicoiling as you can see in a previous post Donegal Cub,

1/2 - 20 is the correct thread size for the carb inlet. It can be helicoiled and I believe there is a "how to" in the CBoK.

The drill size for the 1/2-20 helicoil is 33/64" (.052). 9/16" equates to .056. PM sent.
