Governor R&R

Postby Matt Kirsch » Mon May 09, 2005 12:56 pm

Refresh my memory again: Why do you have to split the tractor to remove the governor? It looks like all you've got to do is pull a couple of bolts and it comes right out.

Might have a governor problem, or just an issue of trying to mow THICK spring grass with a 60" deck.

Matt, splitting is not necessary. Just put #1 cyl on TDC on compression stroke first. it will make re-assembly easier. But before you remove it, check the linkage for slop or binding, you may not need to remove the governor body itself.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Mark it first

Put a mark on the inside on the case and the coupling. Makes it a lot easier to reassemble properly.

Yeah, BD. I was looking in there and the spring that connects the linkage from governor lever (we all know that's really what it is, not the "throttle lever") to the governor doesn't look right.

When I had mine apart I did replace the spring, I figured it was cheap insurance. Side by side they are noticeably different, but I don;t have a photo handy.
