Re: Shifter repair helpI don't know where George got those offset washers, you might check McMaster Carr and see if they have anything like them. George was quite the machinist so he may have made them.
Re: Shifter repair helpIf I can remember George told me he went to a local auto parts store and bought Dorman - Mag Wheel Washers. The last one I did the only ones I could find is Offset - I.D. 0.70 Inch O.D. 1.25 Inch. Probably a good hardware store or McMaster-Carr if the auto parts store doesn’t have anything.
I’m really good at doing nothing…With that said…I’m really, really good at doing nothing
Re: Shifter repair helpI had an interest in doing this but finding the washers and machining the parts put this way on the back burner. I see one offset washer from Dorman (for Cragars) but not two. Mcmaster has nothing of the sort. I always thought this would make a nice kit to package.
Re: Shifter repair helpBelow the second picture he said:
I don't think George ever hesitated to make a part if he thought he could make one that would work better than the original. I think you can do a pretty good job of keeping water out using the original parts and replacing/adding an o-ring.
Re: Shifter repair helpFastenal has beveled and hillside washers.
Disclaimer I own stock in Fastenal Bill
