Oil everywhereMy son was plowing snow. He siad the tractor was leaking some oil in the rear. He backed it in the shop and let it set until I got home. Here was what I found.

Re: Oil everywhereover full transmission?? that will cause the oil to leak out the differential seal. If oil is correct level then I would assume the diff seal is shot.

Re: Oil everywhereMy guess also. Suggest draining the trans/differential. Putting tractor in a warm area or heat lamp on differential for several hours to see if any water/melted ice drains out. I have an excuse. CRS.
Re: Oil everywhereIf your tractor has been exposed to the outdoor elements, water could be the culprit raising the trans fluid level.

Re: Oil everywhereThe Cub is stored in a heated building. It will not go into any gear.

Re: Oil everywheresuggest taking the shifter top off to see what is the problem. sometimes if a worn shifter can cause that problem. there is alot of other things that could have happened but arent common. was there any sudden jerk or loud noise before it started to leak?

Re: Oil everywhereGo ahead and drain the transmission. Since storage area is heated, wait 24 hours.
In the mean time while you are waiting for the transmission to drain, remove the transmission cover and check for problems. With that much oil leaking out, about the only thing it could be is water, ice, or way over filled. I have an excuse. CRS.
Re: Oil everywhereI think there is some cast iron busted somewhere, Did he hit anything while pushing snow?

Re: Oil everywhere
Do you mean the gear selector will not move into any of the 4 spots or it will shift but won't move? "HAVE ALL YOUR DELIVERIES MADE BY UNION DRIVERS"
Re: Oil everywhereThe selector will move it just will not go into an gear. I'm afraid the Boss it right. I think somethings broke.

Re: Oil everywhereI wouldn't think that plowing snow would put much strain on the final castings, Unless he hit something with one of the rear wheels. Where is it actually leaking from?

Re: Oil everywhereI doubt anything has broke in the way of a casting Unless a bearing roller or someting got into the gears. I have seen differential carrier caps bust out tearing up the rest of the trans but it takes a heck of a lot to do that

Re: Oil everywhereThis may require a trip out to the shop. Will the PTO lever engage and if so, does it spin the pulley with the clutch engaged with the engine running?
