Just my luck. When I found the time and got the Cub pulled into the shop to rebuild her Touch Control...the pictures describing the process are no longer visible in the Cub Book of Knowledge.

Can somebody please re-post them or attach them to this topic?

Also who has the rebuild kits for sale?

Gracias mi amigo!

Does the Kit from TM have everything in it you need to do a TC unit Rebuild not including the pump or the filter? My unit leaks past the seals and down the side of my torque tube.

The pics are there. The kit from TM has all the o rings and gaskets needed to rebuild. Make sure you order the one for your TC.

You guys will have to bear with me on this topic I only use my 49 Cub to mow our pasture with and I won't need it for a few more months, so I am taking my time rebuilding the TC. I apologize for not being able to view the pictures earlier...I guess the computer I was working on did not have the proper viewer.

Anyways, I got the TC off today and now have the back and bottom of the block removed as well. Should I be looking for anything defective that was causing problems? So far the only thing I see was that the screen had a good tear in it but everything else seems alright. I am pretty sure that it has never been broken into because the bolt heads appear to have original paint on them.

Also, my main question is what specifically would cause the fluid to drain out through the crankcase?

Thanks for all of your assistance and patience.

If hydraulic fluid getting into the crankcase is the problem, then you need to rebuild the pump, not the touch control. The pump is driven from either the crank or the cam gear, and hydraulic fluid leaks past the pump shaft seal into the front cover, and from there drains into the crankcase.

That is some good advice there. I will probably go ahead and rebuild what I can of the TC while I've got it apart.

Does anybody sell rebuilt pumps?

A pump kit does not amount to much more than a couple of O-rings. :D

I have taken off the TC and the TC pump and will be calling TM to order the rebuild kits tomorrow. My oil strainer has a small tear in it but still has its original shape and appears functional. I was thinking about order one of them as well but they are very expensive ($60). Can I still use mine or am I better off getting a new one?

Get a new one. You will just have to break it down again if you don't.

One word of caution on the TC rebuild, get the rebuild kit, take the TC apart, clean it up, reassemble. Don't take too long between disassembly and reassembly. Trust me on that. I waited two weeks to reassemble my first one, what a mistake. It was like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. Now I do the whole job in one session --- much simpler!

What is the best option for acquiring the screen?

Also, what do you suggest to clean the old parts with?

Guys, the pictures for the block number he is referring to isn't the link that was posted above. Those pictures were deleted it says. It's the same block I have, the one that you have to grind down a 3/4" deep socket so it has two tangs to unscrew the (safety valve?) I finally put mine together the other day after it had sat unassembled for about a year... If you get a good parts diagram, it's not hard to reassemble. Before I took mine apart, I degreased the outside really good and got all the paint and grime off with that and a wire wheel. I bought a cheap bore brush set from harbor freight that had brass and nylon brushes to clean out the bores. Lots of compressed air and a angle hook pick to stick and pull the o rings out without touching metal. seems like I remember suspending the block in a tank of degreaser mix and using some brake cleaner to get most of the oil out so the air nossle could get all the rest out. I used q tips in tight spots followed by plenty of air again to get out any fuzz. Be clean! I also used silicone O ring grease (used to lube scuba o rings) and worked it into the rings and greased the valves and everything lightly for initial lubrication.

Guess I should have taken pics while I was reassembling!!! maybe I'll take the head off and take some before I refill it.
