Governor Control Lever

Nice day yesterday, so got out my Cubs to let them run for a while. Was reminded that my 1948's governor control lever (aka, throttle lever) had a worn spot in the tooth; it sometimes pops back to a lower RPM setting after setting it higher. Also inpsected the other two, same worn spot/condition. So, after I was done running them, I parked 'em and removed the levers from all three. Got out the welder and filled the worn tooth and the worn curved indentation on the lower portion as well. Ground them smooth, primed and painted (over 50 degrees F yesterday). They should be ready for another 40-50 years. :D

BTW: My '47 and '48 had levers that have a slight outward bend above the tooth (where the tooth engages the bracket teeth). But I noticed the lever on my '49 didn't; it was straight from top to bottom.

Do any of you have a straight governor control lever? Do you think this was a PO modification or factory?

The IHC printed materials from the day indicate the levers have a slight offset. Mine do too.

Yeah, I checked the TC-37 Series Cub Parts Manuals up thru '70 and all show the same diagram; lever with a slight outward bend. Interesting...

the factory ones have that bend, I have noticed the aftermarket ones are straight
