Broke mine years ago, sleeved, welded and forgot about it. Take that collar off and throw it away! let the rake float, weight implement if needed.

The previous fractures lead me to believe that the rod was badly bent at some point in the past, then straightened, sort of, cold. That damage, plus the flexing since then have made the rod brittle. Welding would repair it for a while. Any flexing would cause it to break again. Other than replacing it entirely, replacing the majority of it- the center section-- and welding that to the existing ends, are about the only good choices available. Long sections of the same diameter will last longer as having part of it larger simply means that the majority of the flexing will occur in the shorter smaller sections and they will become brittle sooner.

I went to the steel center and purchased a piece of 7/8 and had it threaded on the end. I asked for dimensions on the board, and from that made my own link for around $30 if I remember right. My own design on the front loop and a couple of bends with the help of a press, and works great. (cold rolled I think) FWIW

Photo from a test fitting. I tweeked the bends a bit afterward for a more direct pull.

Some clever come-along work would get the harrow home before the new part arrives. By that I mean hitch the disk up and lift it with the come-along.

Heck I might even try a chain from the FH to the TC. It is a pull after all.

I knew they were different, most every part is different on a Lo Boy's Fast Hitch. I was surprised they were the same length, but a Lo Boy hangs a lot further back than a Cub, so guess it makes sense after all.

A bit of chain and I got the harrow home. Left the cobblestones behind
