Cub at work

Postby saddlemaker » Wed Apr 20, 2005 6:18 pm

I have my Cub and mower all back together and have been putting her through performance tests. The results were teriffic and I am well satisified with her performance. I wish I had invested in a Cub years ago instead of Murray or Sears. Dan

Dan:

You have done a real fine job :D :D Cub looks real good and you seem to be enjoying the fruits of your labours :!:

You said it too. Cubs with a mower are certainly a far more economical purchase than a garden variety ride-on mower. Last a lot longer, use a lot less gas, and are more fun to use. Also, Cubs are far more versatile than a ride-on is.

I too wish I had invested in a Cub years ago. What I spent on my Craftsman would probably have bought me 3 Cubs at least :!:

Now, if only a Cub could cut the side of a hill like a ride-on can... COG is too high unfortunately, so a ride-on is still a requirement for me.

Dan: That is a good looking tractor and mower. What type of mower do you have and how wide is the cut? Dan England

Dan, the cut is 42 inches and it is an International mower, I think John said it was a C3, I am not to up to date on these Cubs yet, maybe John can correct me if I am wrong. Dan

The 42 incher is a C-2. The C-3 is a 60" 3-blade finish mower.

Mowing with the Cub won't beat you up in the seat like the little riders will. The ride is even better on the Cub if you don't overfill the tires with air.

Looks good there Dan.

Rudy front wheel weights have made a big difference on my lowboy on the side of hills.
I saw an ad for highway dept cubs with 2 sets of fronts, calcium in the rears, with a wide stance and extensions to widen the rear. If I remember right it was for 65 degree slopes.

saddlemaker, Potosi looks good and so does you and your new mower :)

I enjoy mowing with my Cub and Woods 42 deck...Its a great set up. Bet it will last a little longer than the Sears riding mowers that cost as much as two Cubs  ..Enjoy the spring there in SE MO. :D

Rudy I bought a Swisher tag along mower that was a return at TSC. It has a 44 inch cut. I tow it behind the lowboy. When cutting the 1200 foot long dam for my pond I put a chain from the draw bar to the mower. The mower rides the side of the bank and I stay on top. It will reach up a ways from the bottom too. The PO had a Massey 35 with a 7 foot cycle bar that he used to cut the dam with. Jim would ride reaching up enough and down enough to get the whole thing.

I have seen the lawn Rudi has to mow.I would not put a Cub on that slope unless it was chained to a bulldozer. You would have trouble walking up that slope. 8) Bruce

Rudi
I had a place in southern Ohio that was on a hillside. Got a 76 cub with 1000 loader. traded the rear weights for a set of dual adaptors. got a set of old tires, wheels with weights out of WV. Ran the duals year round with the loaded tires on the outside, took the loader off in the summer. ran a Woods 59 belly mower from a Kubota under it with the belt twisted to get proper rotation. This cub would slide on the hills sidways and forwards, rocked up when hitting an old tree root in the front yard yet never tipped or tried too. I did mow one angle I could not walk on about 12 feet wide I refused to ride a mower on it. Had to run the oil level high to keep the oil pressure up on the slopes.
In my mind I would not take a rider places that cub took me safely.
Keep in mind I had duals spaced out to miss the loader frame, 4 rear weights, outside tires loaded with calcuim and HEAVY chains on the out side tires only. No front wheel weights, the cub would slide every time it was too steep never tried to tip.
