Rotary Hoe

Postby tmays » Wed Aug 22, 2012 6:36 pm

I went to visit with Mr Russ and CubBud and few weeks back and had a wonderful time. Mr Russ showed me this rotary hoe and I just had to have it. Thanks Russ! I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I've never used one. Can't wait!

I knocked off my neighbors mailbox with a rear mounted rotary hoe on the 806 back when I was 7 or 8 years old.
My uncle Jim was sitting on the fender letting me drive from one farm to the other and that dang thing stuck out a couple feet both sides, and I took Mr. Claude Poe's big beautiful (he had one of those oversize country mailboxes) mailbox right off the post.

I still remember me and Uncle Jim beating all the dents out with a hammer, mounting it back on the post and telling old Claude about it later that afternoon.

Claude is long gone, and I still drive by there on a tractor now and then (still live on the same square mile), but I always swing wide at that mailbox!!

Sorry for the completely random Rotary Hoe story.
Ha!
Cool score, I hope you find a good use for it.

A Different tool for cultivation. Used to be widely used on small, emerging crops that needed the surface soil moved around to kill emerging weeds and grass. Picture from a forum post.

Great find Thomas. I've wanted a set for a long time, but, wondered if a cub had enough power pull them. Let us know how they work when you get the chance. Thanks, Tom.

Does anyone have a picture of the first picture mounted up? They are IH tines. Is the whole unit IH or homemade? I'm trying to see what I will need to mount them.

Unit is IH. It is belly mount for a Cub. :-) I have mounted and used it, but did not take pics. They are pretty rare, so I don't plan on putting it to work. I'd hate to break one of those tines

What is something like that worth? I found two of them in an old barn.

Depends on whether you're buying or selling :-)
I posted mine for sale here on the forum for 250 and got no takers. It is no longer for sale. Mine is in excellent condition, but just because something is pretty rare doesn't necessarily equate to more bucks. I have not seen another one of these for sale, so nailing down a price may be difficult.

My Uncle has a set for a Cub. Doubt he has ever used them.

Hi,
My original 1955 Cub brochure shows there was also a Fast Hitch rotary hoe. It was 50 inches wide, it says. Here are pictures. :)

Yep, and I will gladly trade mine for a fast hitch variety! :-)
