I did all the bolt holes in my final drives with the heli-coil kit. It has worked fine for me,the tap, drill bit and coils were a little expensive ,but still a cheap price to pay for new bolt holes. Very easy to install also.

I removed my Low Boy draw bar and mounting brackets to burn off some crazy business a po had welded on. I found out why the extra stuff was there. The right final had a stripped hole and some of the others showed signs of damage but not stripped. The stripped one had a larger bolt in it. I ordered one of the kits but could not find a 21/32 drill on car tools .com. They had sets of drills but I did not see one as a seperate item.
The extra stuff was welded over the tapered holes in the brackets and regular Hex head bolts were used. I had picked a set of tapered bolts from Tom a TM so I was able to replace with the proper ones after I burned off the extra junk and ground the welds flat.
Jim thanks for the link to cartools .com

Heli coils will probably be stronger than the casting was originally. Plus Cast has a lot of air pockets hard to weld. You can also use Threaded inserts made for metal. They work great. I think i got some froma place called fastners.com or something like that
i have a few tractor pics on my site i should have started taking them before i took it apart

The welding wasn't one the cast but on the draw bar mounting brackets. on a low boy the are a good foot long.

The shorter ones on the left are for a cub. The long ones on the right are for a Low Boy
