Mott flail mower

Postby Eugene » Sat Apr 09, 2005 10:38 pm

Went out to mow with the mott flail mower I purchased from John ^&*( Cub owner. John had provided mounting instructions and had the photos as a back up.

Mowed about 15 feet and the belt jumped off. Back to the shop, lined up the PTO pulley to match the idlers. Mowed another 15 or 20 feet and the belt jumped off again. Back to the shop. Double checked everything. Steped on the drawbar and it dropped an inch or two. Tightened the drawbar. Mowed about 1/4 mile and the belt was flopping. Back to the shop, retightened (RETIGHTENED) the drawbar. Mowed about another 1/4 mile and the belt jumped off. Back to the shop. Draw bar was tight to the rear axle housing. Stepped on the draw bar and it move 1/2 inch.

Duh. I had forgotten to tighten the pivot bolts on the drawbar after I took off the plow. Now the mower works great. Love the touch control - sure works slick.

Made for an interesting afternoon.

Is that on a Cub or on a Lowboy?

He has it on a standard cub. I alwyas had trouble with the drawbar mounting bolts loosining if I didn't leave the drawbar adjustment bolts a little loose.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Mott Flail Mower

Postby Eugene » Sun Apr 10, 2005 9:22 am

The flail mower is mounted on a standard Cub.

I've had the Cub for just under one year. The Cub does a surprisingly good job when things are set up and adjusted correctly.
