No compression on 1 and 3
Been trying to get my 63 running for a while now and today I discovered I have no compression on 1 and 3 .Any suggestions?

If it hasn't been run in a while, you probalby have eom stuck valves. Put about a half cup of penetraitng oil in the 1 and 3. then turn it over bay hand a couple times. This will push the oil over into the valves. Let it set for a couple days then try it again. If still the same, may have to tkae off the side plate or the head to get to them for a little persuasion.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

No compression
Yup? First thought, stuck valves.
Solvent as John suggests. If you have the hood off you can remove the spark plugs and see the edge of a valve. If that's the stuck valve you may be able to gently tap on the valve to free it up. If the hood is still on remove the engine (side) valve cover and tap gently on the stuck valves.
If doesn't work you will have to pull the head.
Good luck.

Does your mower have the side skids in place to keep it from digging in? I'd check the mower spindle to make sure it does not have bad bearings which are allowing it to wobble. Also check the idler pulley bearings for wear as well. One other possibility is a belt with broken cords which makes it run crooked. If it only throws the belt when you dig in, replacing or adjusting the skids should solve the problem.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
