Gas Tank Storage

Postby Tom Evans » Sun Apr 03, 2005 2:34 pm

I've replaced the gas tank on my '57 lowboy due to a hole cut for generator access in the original hood. Outside of the hole, the original gas tank is in pretty good shape and clean inside. I'm going to store it for a while and either repair it or use it for trading material later. What can I put inside to keep it from rusting?

If it was mine, I would probably just stick it aside and not worry about it. If I wanted to be proactive, I would probably slosh a little kerosene around in there then leave the kerosene in it (with the cap on and the outlet hole plugged).

Tom, If it was me, I would dump all my used oil from oil changes on my cars, trucks and tractors into it.

Filll it full of kroil, and just drain a little out of the petcock as you need it. 2 problems solved, no rust and a storage for your surplus kroil.. Lets se, 7.5 gallonsx 26.75 per gallon. That's more than the tank is worth.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

I agree with John. If that Kroil is as good as Country says it is it will also fix the hole that was cut out for the generator
