Another Moldboard Plow Question

Postby KYMike » Thu Mar 31, 2005 7:40 am

Can the substitute drawbar be used as a reversible floating drawbar with the moldboard plow?

Not very likely. If anyone said definitely not... someone else would say it works for them. It will work for the mid mount grader blade though.

I'l agrre with George. The substitute wouldn't extend far enough forward, plus if you only mounted it with one bolt (so it would adjust) you would run the risk of breaking a final drive if the plow caught on something.

I'll join the concensus and say that it won't work.

I'm not familiar with this substitute drawbar, but I know aguy who plows with his Cub with the regular drawbar in the rear position. Uses the lift arm to control depth of plow. The plow sure sticks out back a long way though.

You do know your regular drawbar floats if you remove the locking bolts .

Best,
Mike

I got a substitute drawbar for the grader blade only.

Not sure that would be a good idea...... More of a chance to bust out part of the casting on the floating bolt area.

Just a thought .... :?

Ron, if you look at the mouning brackets on a standard cub drawbar it has a pivot pin on each side and a bolt attaching the drawbar to the brackets. When you want to mount the plow the bolts are removed so the drawbar can float on the pins, then it is reinstalled in the front holes of the final drive facing forward. There is another lever that is added to the right final drive that connects to the drawbar to move it up and down controling the plow depth. the brackets are still mounted to the final drives with 2 bolts on each side. Taht is the way it's intended to be used.

Thanks John. I am familiar with the drawbar, but not the plow. I now learned something new........ But, if I buy a plow, I will probably forget by then. :?

if you do buy one be sure to get the dpeth control lever also. they don't work very well without them.

I didn't get theadjustment lever whenI got m y cub and plow, so I found an adjustable turnbuckle that fits between the rocker shaft arm and the drawbar, and it raises and lowers the drawbar with the hydraulics along with the plow. Once I got it adjusted right it works good.

I've heard of other people doing that, and it's ok unless you are plowing where the hardness of the ground varies as it does in my area, then you need to keep adusting hte depthe cotrol to allow for the difference in the soil.
