mott hammerknife mower setup

Postby artc » Sat Mar 26, 2005 10:34 pm

started to set up my mott hammerknife onto my "A" as it was supposed to be off an a. got all he parts last fall late and just put them into the storage container without looking at them.
mmmmmm.... :? things don't look quite right here...... some of these parts look suspicousely like Cub parts..... yup there's a exhaust lift for an a (that i have no plans to try to use) and the rest of the parts seem to be cub specific.
i'm thinking of making up what i need to make it work on the A

does anyone have a pictures of one on their cub? how about on a A?

thanks

There is a manul for Mott fo cub on Rudi's manual server. I would suspect most of the parts would be pretty much the smaw. Pulleys would be different, since an A has a slower pto.

should of looked there first  mostly i needed to understand the mounting for the stabilizer rod as it has to move through the lifting range` i have a cultivator hand lift on the 'a' now, so lifting it will be no problem.

need to check pully sizes for speed. or buy another cub to fit the mower 8)

The mower does have a little side movement as it goes up and down but due to the legngth of the rod it is negligible. There were 2 different stabilizer rods I've seen, one that mounts to the right side of the torque tube and extends to the right end of the mower. The other mounts on the left side. I've only seen one of them, and think I took pictures of it if you need them. There were also 2 different lifts. One like in the manuals on Rudi's site, and another one that had a long arm that reached out to the side. i think I have pictures of that also if you need it. If I remember correctly, for the cub the pto pulley is 7 3/4 inches and the mower pulley is 6 1/2 or maybe 7 inches. To use it on an A you will need to change the pulley sizes to get the rpm up, a Mott needs to turn approx 2,000 rpm to cut good.

The mounting on the right side of the torq tube is a flat bar with a short piece welded vertically to it. The short piece has the hole that the bar passes through. I had some one give me a Mott with out any of the mounting hardware except the bar or rod. I was fortunate enough to borrow the parts from a friend. My neighbor's son used them as templetes to make me a set. I haven't used them yet. I got them after snow started to fly. From looking at the parts the only side to side is what ever little slop needed for a fit or wear would cause. I don't see that it would be appreciable nor do I see it to be a problem.
I have some pictures that I coppied from a ebay add last year so that I could see how to mount mine and before I knew what was needed. I'll try to find them and learn how to post them.

There are pictures of the one I used to have at http://home.centurytel.net/ejpuckett/Mott%20mower/
though my lift and jocky bar are probably different than yours.

And one using alternative mountings.

My Mott mounts like the one in the pictures Mr. Brecker posted. It has the 1 piece rod. The bends in the ends hold it in place. Mine also has the short lifting arrangemnt also like the one Mr. Becker posted.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the Mott flair mower. I am currently in the process of it mounting up. Used your photos to double check everything. You know, getting old and a short memory.

For some reason the mower in your pictures looks just like the one I recently purchased. The disk works great.

Thanks

Eugene

Mott Flair Mower

Postby Eugene » Sun Mar 27, 2005 8:35 pm

I purchased the mower from John Pucket about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I used John's post, directly above, to check the positioning of the sway bar.

If you click on John's post directly above you can see the mower and the mounting brackets.

Just updated my profile to include the state. Apparently the update added the state to my past post.

The sway bar is custom made from a couple of 3 point swivel balls, and a piece of pipe, got tired of the noise the looped bar made.

Ok John. The more questions I ask the more I learn. Because I have so much to learn I will be back with a lot of Questions. There was something I had to learn 3 or 4 times, but I forget what it was.

i need to move the mower forward about 6 inches to accomodate the dimensions of the 'a'. the stabilizer bar will work with an added piece of flat stock for the different implement mounting footprint, and i need to fab up an idler pulley setup. oh and a couple of pulleys..... but if i only have 540 at the pto, i'm going to have to go to 3 or 3.5 inches at the cuttershaft to get anywhere near 2000 rpm.

guess i'll have lots of parts leftover. oh, yea, there was even a cub 54A blade spring assembly with it. wonder where that fits :?:

thanks, all. a big help, as usual
