Hello-
I am new to this forum and new to Cubs. I bought my first cub last week, a 1950 model. Thanks to info from this great forum I have already made many repairs: new head gasket, rebuilt carb, a few sticky valves, new radiator gasket, etc. She is now purring like a kitten, where she would barely start before.
My next project to tackle is to locate a new front wheel for the 60" mower deck. Does anyone recognize this deck? It has a faded IH sticker on each side.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Matt

Looks like a genuine IH C-3 deck to me. If you look at the underside and scrape the stuff off the spindle housings, it should say DANKO in raised letters.
Looks like you are missing the L-shaped side skids that go on each outer edge. You'll need those or you'll launch stuff a 1/8 mile around corners or in dips and such! And those ufo's seem to always hit stuff that has a high deductable and has to be fixed....!!!
I see both casters....there's grease fittings to lube and they should free up. I think those same caster wheels are available but I cannot recall the source.
If the deck has been sitting outside I wouldn't just toss the belt on and start her up. Potential bearing melt-down is repairable....the bearing housings are only obtainable used from someone who doesn't need them as far as I know should the heat and damage go that far.
A little advanced planning and care/maintenance will save ya tons of grief down the road.
I have that same mower on my 57 Loboy and it works great, nice even cut. Blades are still sold at CaseIH-about 14 bucks a pop. I got seals and bearings from a distributor, oh, and the star washers from CaseIH too.
Good luck and welcome to the club.

Those deck wheels are important too ! My 60 inch Woods
has only skids and I have to be careful about scalping uneven ground.
Interesting system to raise the mower-I sometimes forget some
Cubs didnt come with the hydraulic lift. One less thing to repair. Good
luck with the Cub-its a solid looking tractor.

If you straighten that lift rod you will gain a lot of lift for the deck.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

I wondered about that too....
But I thought I'd wait until someone with better experience and eyesight than I commented before I put my foot back in my mouth. Takes a while to get that shoe leather taste out of your mouth.

Hi Guys-
Thanks for all your help. I was able to get an replacement wheel - IH 474104R92 - not cheap! I guess I should find (or make) a pair of skids - or else I may have some bald spots on the lawn.
Bigdog mentioned that I should straighten the lift rod - how strait should it be?
Thanks again for all the help,
Matt

Matt,
Are you sure the skids aren't where you got the tractor from???? They mount on the sides of the deck, and you can see clearly where they go by the brown areas with the two holes where it isn't painted. The skids mount there, hang down about 5 inches and extend back the length of the side of the deck. I'll bet they are under a workbench, hanging on a nail or something where the tractor lived before.

Matt,
Look here http://www.tm-tractor.com/gdr/gdr_001.htm for pictures of both lifting rods. Your tank support is "short eared", so you could use either style.
