Governor output shaft?

Postby Charles (49) Mo » Wed Mar 23, 2005 10:18 am

Looking for options to remove the slop on the rockshaft assembly, part #251-461-R11

Two pieces are involved, the shaft from the governor and the lever. Its fastened by a 1/8"x5/8 solid pin.
The lever is moving slightly on the shaft and I think this is contributing to engine speed problems that we have. Had the guts out of the governor housing and everything in there looked ok after a good clean-up.

I drilled and tapped a hole opposite the key for a 6-32 set screw and then tightened the screw to remove the play. Depending on the wear you may need some thin shim stock around the shaft shuch as from a aluminum drink can. I think others have used JB weld.

I think I would use brass shim stock because the clay soil by me eats up aluminum conduit. The local electrical code does not let you use aluminum conduit because of that.
