Andy, check the link, I think it will show you what you need. The points on a mag are set at .013".

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Just went through a magneto problem with my cub and had everything right new cap and rotor, wires and points and still got a weak spark, took it to a shop and they found out the bushings in the mag were worn out which would let it fire about half a revolution then nothing. so it was hitting on two cylinders which made me keep trying to start it as it sounded like it was going to fire but wouldn't. The spark should jump at least 1/2 of an inch if the mag and everything is up to par. They also said the coil was weak (shorted on a few windings). good luck.

You cant beleve what a fresh rebuilt and tuned mag does to starting. It is pretty hard to work on a cub mag without taking it off becuase there is no Room it can be done of couarse. There is a cover under the dist cap that is held on by three screws take the screws out and pull it out toward the oil filter housing and there is the points. 13 thousands when there open on the high side. you also have to make sure everything is clean and the rotor is still good and in time but that will be another post.
