Distributor To Magneto Question ?

Postby Mag Man » Mon Mar 21, 2005 1:56 pm

Hi Guys ,
I was wondering if the mount that the mag hooks up to is the same as the mount that the Distributor hooks to. I would like to go back to the mag on my 51 so it will start And Perform better.

The mag will fit if you remove the distributor adaptor. If you're lucky, the governor hasn't been mis-timed. The distributor is tolerant since it has a splined connection, but the mag isn't. The drive slot must be in the right position for the mag.

Yep, learned aobut the governor timing the hard way. right after I bought Missy (before Bud worked on it. I wanted to get a mag back on it before the first Cubarama and spent an hour trying to time the mag, before I realized the governor wasn't timed right.

Is there a way to see if the govener has been mis timed or is it a trial and error thingy. The reason I asked was I took a closer look at the old girl today and did not see any where that looked like a J4 would bolt right up to by removing the Dist. Must be just a optical alousion. LOL John I got half way to the shed today Maybe a few more days I can let you know on that Part. JON

You take the dist and the whole dist off. Not just the cap. See the link to TM tractor
