did I purchase the correct hyd unit for my 48 cub ?

Postby rick 48 cub » Sat Mar 12, 2005 4:55 pm

Hi All,

JP tractor sent me the full hydraulics (res/hyd control, hyd line, hyd pump) for my 'regular' 1948 cub. The hydraulic control is embossed with 354383R 3 14 W.

What troubles me is that the hand written tag attached to the unit states "late cub 56 later hyd cntl"

I would like to make sure I got the right one before I start cleaning up this one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Rick

As i understand it the only time you will have a problem is if you try to rebuild the unit you will need the later type rebuild kit.

another thing is the unit you have probably has the arm for the fast hitch helper spring.
The earlier ones did not have it .
it should fit .

Internally there were changes made several times over the years. Thus beaconlight's comment. Externally, later versions had heavier rockshafts with heavier bearings and an extra arm for the Fast-Hitch helper sprng.

The later unit is fine for any earlier tractor. The early unit would not allow mounting the F-H helper spring on a F-H equipped tractor.

It sounds like I am actually better off (from a functional perspective) with a newer more refined unit. I can now clean up and repaint with confidence.

Now, if I could just find an implement to use with the hydraulics ..... perhaps a snowplow.
