It could very well be a case for/from a Cub Cadet. Except for the Original or first model Cub Cadet, gear drives had a fill plug in the differential cover because the top fill plug, or area of the top plug, was covered up by frame/fenders/seat mount/sheet metal (depending on model) and not accessible. Even though not accessible, the plug was still there on some early models, but was not there on later model gear drives.

Missing Plug
Hey, it looks like Kirk sent a picture of buckwheat! This is the new (to me) cub I'm buying. Kirk said it was unusual. Anybody have any idea why it's missing the fill plug/port?....roger
