Tractor "Newby"

Postby Roger Tate » Tue Feb 15, 2005 11:54 pm

Greetings to all...Thanks to my long-time friend Kirk, I am now the proud owner (as soon as I pay him) of a gorgeous 48 Farmall Cub SN# 46451.
Kirk bought a flatbed full and I couldn't resist. I have NEVER owned a tractor of any kind, nor do I have a farm or even a large yard but one look at that 48, and 5 minutes in the seat and I was in love! Thanks Kirk!!
Anyway, I've spent the last 5 hours reading all of the sites I could find and am blown away by the TLC you guys (and Gals) put into these beautiful machines. I look forward to attending the rallys and seeing everything in person.

By the way...don't worry about the 48 sitting idle. I'm buying a place big enough to use it with a nice cozy workshop to keep it out of the weather.

Thanks for the forum.....roger

Welcome Roger. I am glad Kirk sold one cub to some one who will enjoy it. There is a wealth of information available to you on the site. There a number of links available in the New members please read listing.

Welcome aboard Roger! You will love messing around with your Cub.
Mine is also a 48 and very close to your serial #. Maybe they were made the same day.

Three years later and a LOT of TLC and this is what you get.

Crestview is a nice place. We spend the night there on our way down to Destin every year.

Many Thanks

Postby Roger Tate » Wed Feb 16, 2005 10:31 am

Hey guys, Thanks for the warm reception! Donny, whats the deal with dialectric grease? Ken, that is one beautiful cub.....do you use it often? I know several hot rodders that build trailer queens but many build gorgeous cars and drive them everyday. Is it the same for tractor-aholics?
By the way, my daughter-in-law is from Campbellsville,Ky. and my son went to seminary in Louisville. Let us know next time you head to Destin and we will get together (I'm sure kirk would drive over from Milton as well).
Anyway, thanks again to all of you....roger

Thanks Roger, it is truely a labor of love. I bought it to cut 2 acres of grass and knew nothing about Cubs then. I have since sold the lot and 5 foot woods mower but could never sell the tractor! She's a trailer queen now.

I'll let you know the next time we come through. Still tying to schedule the vacation around Cubfest the last weekend June. Must be handled very delicately if you know what I mean

Roger,
Do a search for dielectric (not to be confused with Dielectric) grease.
It's not as bad as Bigdog coming after your Cub :!: If I were you I'd get it out of site    8)

Donny - now you're gonna scare the poor boy off!
Roger - don't pay them boys no mind now, Y'hear? Your cub is perfectly safe around me. Now just where did you say you keep it? I might just drop in and pay it a visit to see that you are treating it OK.

Oh, by the way, will I have room to turn my trailer around easily? (you know, just in case I bring one of my cubs for a Florida vacation)..... :) :)

dielectric grease

Postby Roger Tate » Wed Feb 16, 2005 3:17 pm

Donny, I am familiar with dielectric grease from the standpoint of it's non-conductivity( I used it in aircraft avionics applications years ago, I was just wondering if you had any particular use for it on tractors....roger

Keeps the aluminum wheels from welding themselves to the hubs! (learned that the hard way)

Also good for keeping electrical connections from corroding... wish someone had used something on my regulator.... nearly destroyed a terminal trying to get a screw out.

Roger:

Well, gonna add my welcome as well. Glad to see Kirk was able to ensure one Cub went to someone who can appreciate them. As Donny said, Bet you can't stop at one :!: I know I couldn't.

Showed my wife what a yaller cub looked like, and she didn't say no, didn't say yes, but did say it was purty though. Maybe there is still hope to acquire Jed :!:

Hey Rudi.... you can show her my 'ol' yeller' when I get done with it and it is up in Maine.

I have been told by a female friend that it is 'too yellow' at the moment, but the hood and white stuff is out getting painted and it does look a bit like a school bus that mutated into some odd shape.

Honestly, I think red is far more becoming on a tractor.... but this one started it's life yeller and will remain yeller as long as I own it.
