Most of us use 80W90 gear oil in the transmission, final drives and steering gear box. Hy-Tran is the popular choice in the touch control. My oil of choice for the engine is Case/IH Low Ash 30 WT. motor oil.

Rex:

First, welcome to the greatest forum on the internet, and to the Cub Family. You will find that all the folks on this forum are kind, helpful and just full of Cub info and knowledge. They also happen to be the finest folks I have ever met :!: :D

I would suggest that you read this thread: New Members and Visitors, Please READ. There are many great links to informative pages such as the ATIS FAQ's (both 1 and 2), The Best of H.L. Chauvin who has written very interesting articles on troubleshooting common problems with your Cub.

Also, you might want to visit the Cub Manual Server as there is tons of info on servicing, maintaining and re-building your Cub. Also, the Owner's Manual has a Lubrication Section that will answer all of your questions.

I would also recommend that you visit Binder Books and purchase the Owner's Manual, the GSS-1411 Service Manual and the TC-37F Parts Manual. Although they are available on the server, it is better is you also have your own paper copy. Binder Books is the only licensed IH publication reprint shop and they have the best quality.

I truly hope that you enjoy your Cub and that you will be a frequent contributor to the forum. Again, welcome to the Cub Family :D

Thanks for the info. Istarted to work on it a little today. I was going to put new wiring on it and noticed that a coil has been added to it. the coil that is made on it behind the cap has no plug wire in it. Instead they mounted a coil were the voltage regular is supose to be. the regular is hanging beside the lift box. I wonder if the orignal coil is hard to come by and can you get it by its self? The cub uses a IH made J4 magneto. Someone has installed an external coil because the one in the mag isn't working. Try this link:

Rex:

Your local CaseIH Dealer should be able to get the original coil for the magneto for you. However, you will need your core from what I understand.

You may also be able to order it online at Case Tractor Parts.

Be prepared to lighten your wallet by a sizeable degree.

If you prefer, you can go to Napa and get a automotice coil for the meantime.

Rex, You should be able to find the oil filter locally. Several cross references are:: AC P-321, Fram C-235
NAPA 1153, Wix 51153
Purolator L2008 or L2009
Fleetguard LF-672

The brakes are still available through Case IH. If you do not have a local dealer, try Carter & Gruenewald online at http://www.cngco.com

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Found a case -IH dealer and they have been in bussiness since 1953. The son and pop tractor supply fixed me up with ever thing I need except for the lights. Does anybody know where I can find the head lights, mounting brackets and rear light for my 1948 model.

Watch e-bay or contact either J.P. Tractor Salvage or T.M. Tractor.

Rex don't just depend on what you see on their sites. call them and tell them what you need.
They are the first two listings in the for sale forum.
