new grill questions

Postby cjpenny89 » Tue Jan 25, 2005 1:14 pm

I have a 48 cub and it has the 4 bar style grill on it. I have been thinking about selling the 4 bar grill and ordering a new screen type grill for it.
has anyone bought the new aftermarket grills that are suppose to match the 48 cubs?
what do you guys think of the grills? Where is the best deal and the best prduct?
Or do you think all of these come from OEM?

I think (if my mind hasn't completely left me) that Bruce Sanford is reproducing some wire mesh grilles that are said to be quite good. I know a common complaint on some of the reproduction grilles is that the mounting tabs are not quite in the right place.

For what it's worth, I just ordered an engine manual for my H from Binder Books and they sent me a flyer that said they are now selling some parts for Cubs. The grille they advertised looked very well-made from the picture, and I think the price was around $100.
A kick in the pants is still a step forward.

The grille that's on "Harley" is from J.P.'s. I was very satisfied with the price and the looks but I did have to trim a bit off the top tabs to get it to fit in right, like Bigdog said. It was painted and ready go.

Grille

Postby allenlook » Tue Jan 25, 2005 1:55 pm

I ordered a repro off eBay, it was well made and the tabs were in exactly the right place... I posted about it a while back, maybe searching for grille would bring it up, or I can find the info from my eBay page.

BigDog was right.

Bruce makes probably some of the best custom fitted grills I have seen.

Send him an email.

The one he made for Ellie fits like a glove :!: Correct even to the thread count in the screen.

Chad:

That should not be a problem especially if your 4 bar is in good shape. I am sure that whoever buys it, ifn they are on this board would be sure to make that happen -- it would be a fair deal.

Ooooor, now don't shoot me guys - put it on eBay with a start bid of the price of a new one -- again - talk to Bruce Sandford  :!:  :!: .

If I remember correctly, sometime this fall there was a thread on how some guy on eBay bid a horrendous amount for an original 4 bar grille....

Yes My 4-bar is in really great shape I will end up selling it come up short on the price of a new one for the 48 and then 2 months later buy a cub for cheap and it will need a new 4 bar grill. lol
Does anyone have bruces number? IF someone needs a 4-bar grill I am up for a trade for one for my 48.
