Postby Scott » Sat Jan 22, 2005 8:51 pm

I got paint today. Man that stuff is expensive. 40 bucks for a quart. and more for the hardener and everything. I guess it will all be worth it in the end.

they had to specialy make it there so they probably charged more. We printed the paint numbers of Rudi's site and brought them. They were able to match the number with a dupont one.

Scott...Don't feel too bad  .
I wanted to get a can of touch-up paint for "Plum Crazy" (our 1930 Ford Model A Street Rod) and they had to come and take a press-against-the-car digital photo so they could match the paint (lots of white pearl in it) 8) . $40.00 later I got me a nice, fully matched PINT :( of Dupont custom mixed touch up paint  :!: :!: :!:

I pay 60 dollars for a quart of DP 90 and the reducer. This is just a sealer that I use on all my implements. Paint is never cheap, if you want to buy the right stuff and do it right. Remember this, Red is always the most expensive paint to buy, especially when purchased at an automotive paint store.

i would guess that is most popular, and the "hottest" color, hence stores jack up the price.

A paint manufacturer explained it on another list. Red is the most expensive pigment. There are a couple different red pigments but the one that fades the least is even more expensive than the other.

It actually has real gold in it! So does Yellow but not as much. Some red tint (polyester) could coast $200.00! I mixed the IH color before it is just about a pure red tint. some red oxide, black a little white. So 40 for a quart of urathane or polly base coat is really not that expensive. The good news is that paint has come a long way in the last 50 years, and especially the last 10 years. you paint that tractor with good paint. The paint will last longer than the owner!

The PPG 'Delstar' was about 40 a quart too. Since mine is Yeller and White I needed a quart of each.

Some (lots) of the yellow I am doing with CASE/IH rattle cans and I noticed the new cans have a different formula and instructions. Also 1/2 ounce less! No MEK in the new formula...
