serial numbers

Postby Ralph » Tue Jan 18, 2005 8:31 pm

One of the cubs I bought over the weekend has a serial number of 100095 I Did a message search and if I read the post right that makes it in the range that it could be a white demonstrator .
What made me go checking was I found white on the bottom of the steering housing and in various places that is hard to get paint to.
It is a shame that the tractor was in so bad of shape and so many parts missing.
The block looks to be in really good condition I havn't miked it yet .
What should the casting code be if it is a Demo. ?

Ralph - casting codes should be late 49 (S) or early 50 (T).

Big Dog; are you saying that the white demos are late 49 and 50? The one I have is # 90388 and if I remember right the casting date is either aug or oct of 49. Could this be one also? CHUCK

Ralph. The cylinder bores when new should mic at 2.625 to 2.627. After use, the specs say not to exceed .005 taper from top to bottom. Is this what your after?..............

Chuck - no. The demonstrators were 1950 only. But some of the castings would have already been in inventory when demo production started in early 1950. Thus accounting for the 49 casting codes. Ralph's casting of Dec.2nd 1949 would fall right into place.
I believe the first accepted serial number for a demonstrator was 99256.

This statement was copied from ATIS

The exact serial numbers of the demonstrator tractors is not known, but it is believed to include serial numbers 99536-106517. IH expected the dealers to repaint these tractors red before they were sold. This was usually done, but occasionally an original white Cub can be found.
