Todd & Buzzard Wing,

Get a copy of Ken Updike's book, titled Farmall Cub & Cub Cadet. Chapter 8 contains several photos that may answer a number of your questions about paint and finish.

I highly recommend it as well. Got the book while I was in Hospital. Real nice read with lots of good pics and info. It should solve your questions nicely.

http://www.amazon.com has a few copies and there are a couple copies available on eBay, but are more expensive.

I have that and just looked at it. there are two pics of a yellow and white cub but its a much later model witha white grill shell. It seems to answer many of the questions. However it raised afew more. My wheels where all white where that one has silver rims and white centers. it does look like the dist was not painted so thats one question answered. It also shows natural hood bolts, but mine still used the old style bolts so i think they were painted
i have a few tractor pics on my site i should have started taking them before i took it apart

I don't have the details on the later tractors either. Guy Fay's Letter Series book has the rules on masking from some time in the early '50s. Bigdog gave the basic rule that applies.

Todd,

Actually, the rear rims on your tractor would have originally been silver (galvanized) and the centers would have been IH white.

I know the rear centers are white.... just finished grinding all the paint off em! Trying to figure if it is worth it to dismount the rear tires, clean up the rims and find someone who would galvanize them.
They are too big for my 'bubbling' tank, the front ones came out real nice!

Noticed from the thumbnail that Todd's Cub has rear wheel weights.

If I ever trip over a set (sore toe) what color would be right for a Yeller/white Cub?

Thanks Don and Rudi,
I took your advice and took a look at both Amazon and eBay for the Cub book. Found someone selling them on eBay for 9.95 + 4 shipping, so $14 delivered! Since I just sold something on eBay today (250,000 BTU heaters sell fast in a cold spell) I had a credit itching to be used.

Anything that helped speed up Rudi's recovery must be in my library!!

Buzz - Wheel weights on Y & W cubs are typically yellow - both front and rear. I have seen some done in black that looked really sharp.

Many of these questions will be answered in the new Cub and Cub Cadet Originality Guide which is being written at this very moment. Well not actually at this very moment because ken is still at work.
I know a lot of this info has been uncovered.....................

Oh boy a new book!! I haven't even got the 'old' one yet. Suppose he is monitoring us as 'reliable' sources ?? That would be too much like CBS news!!
