spark plug wire bracket

Postby dennnis79 » Fri Jan 14, 2005 2:01 pm

Hi.

Does anyone have a picture of where the Spark plug bracket is supposed to be mounted and how the wires are routed?

Thanks.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Thanks BD.

Thats what I was afraid of. I installed the head last night and I forgot to put the bracket under the head bolt. I'm afraid to loosen just one bolt for fear of warpage. I'm not sure if I want to or need to get a new head gasket if I do decide to install the bracket.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I think you'll be OK. Just loosen the bolt, install the bracket and re-torque. You're going to re-torque the head bolts after running it for a while anyway.

I am not 100% shure but I think the plug wire holder might have it's own bolt Maybe a 5/16 that bolts in the head :?

That's wat I thought too Ralph, but according to the picture in the manual, it goes under a head bolt. There is an extra hold threaded hole near the back of the head, but I can't figure out what that is used for.

When I was painting My engine I had to remove the head bolt that holds the plug wire holder so on mine at least I know it is a head bolt holding it on. Also it can be tricky getting the holder in the right position when torquing down that head-bolt. It took me about 3 tries before I got it to stop in the right position after the bolt was tight. I was thinking at the time of putting a flat washer on it to help stopping the grip turning action of the bolt head on the wire holder.
Then came Bronson

I presume that it would be a good idea to use a grade 5 (or better) washer under the bolt. Wouldn't anything less stretch or squish too much?

Dennis...
I think the bolt hole you referred to holds a small sheetmetal clip along the right side of the head that serves as a guide for the governor control rod from the control column. At least, my neighbor's '50 and my dad's 75 both have it.

Cubnut. Your exactly right..............

Johnbron. I had the same problem. Thought about a washer, but can't remember if I put one there or not (senior thing I guess!)

Dennis. Sounds like an excellent idea/tip.

Looked through some pictures and came up with these. First one shows the plug wire guide and the second shows the bolt hole for the governor rod guide clip.
