Cast iron bear statue help

Postby my953 » Sat Jan 08, 2005 8:49 pm

A good friend today came into posession of a cast iron bear statue from Louisville Works dated 1949 (sorry, it's not for sale). Yes, my eyes lit up. Question: Could someone help me with the story behind why they were made? Was it a way to consume surplus molten metal, or a special promotional deal? Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Jim. Exactly what I was looking for. I guess I didn't look far enough in the FAQ.

Jim
That information is also on the IHCC Kentucky Chapter 24 site at http://www.ky24ihc.org/cadetsnbears.html and one or two other sites.
